Was there really any need to go through the Leon Britton stuff again? Thought we'd got over that. Don't even see what the big deal is tbh.

Is the man not entitled to his opinion? just like how set in your ways you are with Michael Carrick. In his opinion prior to his injury Leon Britton was possibly the best DM in the league..Like myself, and many others, you're of the opinion that he wasn't.

Its been done to death a few times now, can we just move on, Leon Britton hasn't got much to do with United tbf.

Delaney is saying we are trying to push ahead and get Clyne this month and a CB to go with him, would rather him to Coleman as he is younger and i think a slight bit more defensively sound. Southampton would take us to the cleaners though and he would need to push through the move

Edit: Just found out that Clyne only has 18 months left on his deal and Southampton are expecting him to leave in the summer, might sell now to get more money.

Would have to bank on Falcao starting tomorrow. If and it's a big if, he is played and goes onto score, it might go some way to vindicating LVG's decision to drop him last week. i.e. Falcao could be raring to prove his worth tomorrow if given the start. It could get him a goal or assist.

If LVG does go with the 3-5-2 tomorrow it will be a sure sign of his determination (and/or stubborness) to make it work in the team. Even a win for us tomorrow while utilising this formation would still not lift my hopes for it much. QPR are deplorable, away more than home I know, but still a team we should be beating 10 times out of 10.

    I'm hoping the line-up announcement at 2pm tomorrow doesn't kill me and there's a notable change to the formation. The poster who started the Reddit match-thread nailed it with following as regards the line-up, important parts in bold;

    What we want:
    de Gea
    ---Rafa
    Jones
    Rojo---Shaw---
    Carrick

    Herrera
    Di Maria

    Mata

    Falcao
    Rooney

    What we'll get:
    de Gea

    Smalling---Jones----Rojo
    --Rafa---Carrick
    Di Maria--Shaw----
    Mata

    Falcao
    Rooney

...though his 'what we'll get...' line-up is not as bad as the reality could turn out to be. Di Maria in the middle and Falcao and Rooney upfront is a good start.

Sure may as well do my own hopeful 11 for tomorrow...

    ...............D.D.G...............
    Rafa.......Jones........Rojo.......Shaw
    ...................Carrick......................
    .........Herrera..........Di Maria..........
    ....................Mata........................
    .........Rooney........Falcao...............

Maybe Fellaini instead of Herrera to try balance the physical battle in MF, but I really want to see Herrera get more game time. He has serious potential for us as a creative force in the middle who can also score goals.

Even if he handed in a transfer request they wouldn't sell him. Look at Morgan Schneiderlin.

I mean why would they dismantle the defense that has conceded the least goals in the league when they are 3rd and have an excellent shot at the CL.

It would be summer at the earliest, for big money too.

Regardless of who we are comparing people to, I have been very impressed by Blind.

He looks like a quality player .

Could well turn out to be the best of the summer signings

I don't think he can be vindicated even if Falcao scores ten goals tomorrow. Last week was a six pointer against a direct rival for fourth.

I edited my post there to say that he had 18months left on his contract. In the Summer he will only have a year left which will certainly bring his value down, Im not sure of Southampton's financial situation so maybe that would be the deciding factor here. maybe someone can update us with that?

Probably gonna take more than the Shaw fee to get Clyne, Southampton ain't no fools

~35 million for a full back seems obscene, on that note I wonder what the record fee is for a full back

well last summer they owed nearly 30m in outstanding transfer fees, but then sold shaw, lallana etc so i would imagine debt free now, but their new training ground is going to cost in the region of 30m but not sure where they are on that

Is Markus Liebherr's daughter still running the club? I remember her intentions where to find a buyer before, and she didn't want to put more money into the club itself.

Qualifying for the CL is worth in the region of £45m for an English club, which would probably far outweigh any fee they would get for Clyne.

It's a calculated risk but as has been said, Southampton are no fools.

Surely Coleman would be the better option so? Cheaper and a lot better going forward. Plus he's playing for a club with no chance of top 4 so would be more willing to sell.

Coleman will score and create more goals than Clyne and if LvG wants to stick with the 3-5-2 and play with wingbacks, Coleman is the better choice.

I don't understand the ferour over dropping Falcao at the weekend, he's scored 3 nice goals but hardly done anything to suggest he should be undroppable.

yea fair enough but drop him to the bench, not even in the 18 man squad....joke

I can't see Clyne costing more than Shaw, with only 18 months left on his contract if he makes it known he won't be renewing then they should sell in the summer.

I would prefer Clyne to Coleman. Younger and I think he is an excellent FB,I would think both players would cost similar fee's.
If Rafa could be relied apon to stay fit he is as good as anyone in the league.

Would personally be more annoyed that he has done as much as RVP (stats wise, goals per minutes) than RVP yet RVP is the one who seems untouchable. And I do think it was shocking Wilson got in ahead of him, but then I also acknowledge there could have been a genuine reason for his absence (had heard stories about his wife just after giving birth; was that discredited?)

have no problem with that either, i had a problem with 3 defenders on the bench!

Because Falcao is a world class forward who is getting taken off even when he scores and dropped out of the squad for a 19 year old who's yet to score a senior goal in a meaningful game.

Is the match on any US network tomorrow anyone know? Or any foreign channel ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,535 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

My argument is that also Falcao seems more mobile and in the last few games has gotten around the pitch and put in a defensive shift also, doesn't shirk a tackle and has a good all round appetite for the game. Given a run I think goals would come more regularly and you cannot also ignore the fact that we have created very little for him in terms of chances from further out the field.

Again I'm also astounded that 3 defenders made the bench ahead of him and Wilson also who has offered nothing including in the cup against lesser opposition where he had the chance to start. LVG better get real Spurs and Arsenal are hitting form and seem to be finding a solid first 11 whilst be are the opposite. It's gonna be a fight for those 2 champions league places.

Perhaps he can't be vindicated, I'm just looking for the reason in what I see as madness in completely dropping Falcao. Wilson might be able to run faster, but where has that gotten him and the team this season in the minutes afforded to him? Falcao has something like 3 goals and 3 assists in him with 600 minutes played, and has been known to supply a whole lot more when fit and in form. I just don't really buy the excuse that we needed 3 defenders on the bench and Wilson's pace, and that is the only reason Falcao was dropped. Haha 3 defenders on the bench, 3-5-2 formation, then LVG goes and and accuses Southampton of looking for a draw in the post-match interview? Haha he's some man!

Some time last week I wrote a post about how I was seeing the good things at the club over the flaws, well last Saturday LVG took a Dutch steamer all over most of those good vibes. Yeah we're still in the top 4 and that is the mission this season, but it could and should be so much more by now. Also, if this 3-5-2 bullshít doesn't stop we could have to make do with a Europa spot. Same goes for playing our quality players out of position.

It would be great to get back to the basics and just play some football without trying to outpass the opposition or ovethink it; There's the goal, get the ball to it as quick and efficiently as you can and try to put the ball in the net. We have the manager I firmly believe, we have the players to at least be better than we are now, so why isn't it happening?

It would be fantasy to think we'll net a bag of goals away vs QPR, I just hope the team puts in a performance and can stop the recent downward trend.
