I have watched about 3-4 movies so far with the projector on a coffee table with me sitting right behind it, and no the fan noise hasn't been an issue at all. Fan kicks into a higher / louder mode for a few seconds when you switch off the projector. It's audible at normal speed as well, but I personally didn't find it too noisy, sitting just a meter or two away from the projector. And I was using projector's built-in speakers at the lowest setting.

To compare it to something else, I would say it's only about half as loud as a HP N54L Microserver that I have running in the room, and slightly louder than a laptop fan.

I have one of these in front of me and reckon it's about as noisy as the UPC Horizon box when running normally.

Yep mines quiet as a mouse, only in silent sections of a film do I notice a slight hum.... Defo invest in a good soundbar though. It makes all the difference.

Is there any slight burning smell off the bulb ?

It sounds like my H181X is faulty then as I can hear it in the next room 15 feet away with the door open even with a movie on my soundbar at moderate volume!

If sounds like the Fan is running constantly and much louder then any PC fan that I have ever heard.
This is on Eco mode where it is supposed to be 28db and the HD141x is 26db so the difference should be negligible I would have thought.

I have contacted Optoma today so we will see what they come back with but could anyone do a quick video of their Optoma with the sound turned off and in a quiet room so I can see what it should sound like?

Faulty or not, that sounds too loud.

db scale is logarithmic, and approximately doubles every 6 db if I remember correctly, but whatever the scale and rating, if it's too loud it's too loud.

Make sure it's in eco mode, there are other settings that cause fan to run at full speed

It is in Eco mode, if I put it into some of the other modes it actually just much louder again!

To those who have mounted this projector on the ceiling - I just got delivery of a this VonHaus universal mount and the four arms are ajustable (length, direction etc). Now question I ave is, Optoma has three mounting points close-ish together towards the middle of the projector. Ddo I have to use these three mounting points provided, or can I hang the projector by the height adjustable leg screws? Would the "legs" take the weight when upside down?

As i could not mount the projector to the mounting bracket holes i used the holes for the height adjustment and used the leg screws to keep it in place and it is working fine.

I was going to do the same, but then I figured out the rear height adjustment leg screws are thinner than the mount screw holes (which need m4 screws), so I couldn't get them to grip properly.

Luckily I spotted this 200 screws box in Dealz for the princely sum of €1.49 and it had pleny of m4 screws in different lengths. Now I need to find three washeres and then I am all set for mounting it on the ceiling (10m hdmi cable, 10m power cable, D15 DLP link 3D glasses are all ready to go).

Ive been watching it, its down to €500 now, 2 price drops in 4 days. Tempted to pull the trigger but it may go down even further yet. Would love if I could snag it for closer to €450 considering its €670 nearly on the .co.uk site.

Couple of photos of how this projector looks projecting to a normal cream-ish colour wall.

The projection is about 2.8 meters wide. Or for easy comparison, the telly that's barely visible at the bottom is 47".

Decent projector. See if RicherSounds has a deal going because they sometimes offer 5 year warranty as well.
