Rte iPlayer is useless.

This evening I once again tried connecting to Rte iplayer to try and watch the news about the big storm.

And once again I was disappointed. Low resolution and rebuffering every five seconds.

I have a high speed connection so why cant they get their sh*t together and make a "iPlayer" that functions correctly?

Would the fact that I'm in seattle make a difference? Is it possible rte "iplayer" cant reach 5000 miles over the interwebs? Are we still living in the 1980's??

The Irish National Broadcaster cant come up with a server capable to streaming a 20 minute news broadcast?

Frustrating. Frustrating that I have to go to BBC to get irish news.

I have no such problems with the RTÉ Player here in Ireland. Even on my phone it works fine on 3G

Works fine here. I'd suggest your ISP has crap peering to Ireland, blame them.

There’s also been some damage done to a number of submarine cables recently that’s affecting international websites at this end, so maybe it’s affecting sites going the other way too?

Oh, and it’s just ‘Player’

RTE player video quality is very poor, even under ideal conditions. It's no Netflix!

And I understand they're only a small broadcaster but they could have a YouTube channel.

I can certainly contact my ISP and see if their "peering" to Ireland can be optimized.

We just got our connection upgraded and there's been issues so we've had technicians out a few times. I'm a few miles from Microsoft HQ here so its not like its some backwater.

I'm happy to call them and complain if they're somehow not optimizing the connection to .ie sites.

I have never being a fan of the RTE Player. I generally record programmes I follow on my own media and only resort to the player if I fail or forget to set a programme to record. Why is the RTE Player not available on most smart TV platforms as the TV3 is?

Rte iPlayer is useless.
