Dont park without paying the crazy prices. Dont have to be an A Hole to get clamped.

Not clamping half enough. A complete ban on private cars in inner cities is what's needed. Coupled with improved public transport, of course. :)

Well, there's always the option of making a stand and paying for unclamping rather than for parking. That'll show them.

I think clampers are possibly the finest people I ever met. Further, they should go on 20% commission immediately and forthwith and quare lively, and clean up the mean streets even more by clamping pushchairs, buses, small dogs and buskers, as well as evil capitalist lackey pig-dogs with cars.

    Have a look at that:

Hilarious... Funny how clamping goes up on Thursdays, aka shopping night.

But please feel free to enlighten me if you feel this is not funny :)

Not funny at all - more people in cars parking like dickheads around town means more clamping. Unless of course you think it's all a 'revenue generating exercise' blah blah.

I wonder how many of the 56,000 is the same people being clamped multiple time. It takes a certain type arrogance to park in certain places, I would say that quite a few of the 56,000 were repeat offenders because that kind of arrogance is usually pretty rare. Probably also the same people that drive in bus lanes because their time is so much more important than everybody else's.

Oh no I think you misunderstood: I'm glad they're clamping those twats. At some point hopefully they'll get the message.

Many know that sinking feeling when arriving back to find their car clamped.

If I were an Irish Times sub-editor I'd feel the need for some re-wording: "Many know that sinking feeling when, having parked their car illegally or otherwise inappropriately, they arrive back to find to find that they haven't got away with it, and their car has been clamped."

Having your car clamped is infuriating. I know, because I was clamped several years ago for being ten minutes over the time in a Galway City Council car-park. It cured me of my incipient car dependence, though, so perhaps it was money well spent. After that I became much less lazy and complacent, and with a much reduced sense of entitlement as a motorist. I also rediscovered cycling, which opened up a whole new world of understanding with regard to Irish attitudes to transportation policy, sustainable travel and the priorities of local government.

Wow, that's quite a revelation... Are you sure you weren't clamped on the road to Damascus? :D

I completely disagree with that. But you know how it works in ireland, they'd ban the cars or bring in a conjestion charge and the public transport would stay the same, just cost a bit more too.

56000 innocents crushed mercilessly under the fascist jackboot of those who would have us not park like cunts.

Doing that to a council clamp is going to land yourself in serious hot water. They've the power to clamp and have been tested in the courts.

Private clamps you're supposed to take off your wheel and undo the suspension rod or something to remove the chains. Doubt they'd be arsed prosecuting for a chain though.

Maybe just don't park like a dope?

Private clamp you can just cut the chain and you'll never hear from them again.

I have done it with council and private clamps, no difference, steel cuts...

Dont live in Dublin and was never clamped but I used to hate the sight of the f*ckers, when I saw them I was always reminded how we now live in a society where the government is there to catch you out for even more money.

A lot of them were just people who overstayed their welcome and couldnt run back to the car to put more money in, could happen to anyone easily. Had a close call with this myself once cause I was in an interview that went on longer than I expected.

Before people would say 'be grand sure', now you have to watch everything and theres a Renault Trafic around every corner with two c*nts inside waiting for you to walk away so they can clamp you without confrontation.

According to posters in this thread you're an ásshole/dickhead/twat/cúnt/dope if that happens to you. Parking that blocks access or restricts traffic then yes, you're an asshole/dickhead etc. But time running out on a ticket, or not being able to make it to your car

Yeah but you see they could "run back"...they just are not arsed and decide to risk it. If you get clamped it's your own fault, sh1tbag

I prefer the 'not parking like a wanker approach', each to their own.

Some of us have stuff to do, and cant run back or wouldnt make it if they tried. Anyway why are people expected to run back? It is a silly ould system

Id say 99% of the cars I saw clamped were parked neatly in a parking spot, not blocking anyone

You do realise there's a time limit on parking for a reason?

    Seems simple enough to me.

If I'm using prepay parking, I pay as much extra as I can in case I get held up or I park somewhere I can pay afterwards.

On the very rare occasion I get caught out by circumstances beyond my control, I suck it down as it's not really anybody's fault.

Then again, Irish people are dab hands on pinning their own lapses in personal responsibility on everybody else except themselves.

Last November, in a train station carpark, I parked my car and paid for my ticket. Locked my car and went about my business. Imagine my surprise when I came back that evening to find a massive clamp on my wheel. I knew my ticket was valid and could be seen so assumed they made a mistake. I called up and explained to the lady and she was so rude, told me that the clamp would not be removed without payment (120 cash, 125 card). So my brother came over and cut it off.

Anyone struggling with the concept of paying for parking download the ParkingTag app.

Setup an account and you can top up your time on your car without the need to run back to it.
