    Wed 26/11 PM Runmute home:
Run home from work. Nothing much interesting to say about it.

    Thurs 27/11 60 mins Easy:
Headed out from work just before lunch. Had a long sleeve top on but ended up having to roll up my sleeves after about a mile as I was getting too warm. Headed over to Intel and turned around and headed back to Celbridge to take in a more familiar route to bring it up to the hour. Was a lovely day for a run.

    Fri 28/11 50 mins Easy
A handy enough 50 mins around Celbridge on my lunch break. Pace was probably a little fast but he legs felt good so I just went with it.

    Sat 29/11 LSR:
Wasn't sure if I was going to do a LSR or hill run this morning. When I got up and saw hoe thick the fog was outside I figured the LSR was a safer bet. Once I got out the legs were in no mood for any kind of run so I struggled around a little bit. I wasn't enjoying it one bit so I decided to pull the plug at 10 miles and leave it at that.

    Sun 30/11 Rest:
Body wasn't feeling great so took the day off.

    Mon 01/12 70 mins Easy:
Body feeling much better today so back to the plan. Left it a little later than usual to head out so was well rested from last weeks running. Headed out and ran around Celbridge doing a long loop around the outskirts of the town and then back to work.

I'm going to keep the mileage in and around the 45 mile region until the new year and then up the mileage and get myself comfortable running 50-55 miles in the first half of next year. I want to get the mileage up a bit higher before I start to push out the LSR. I definitely fall into the category of having my long run being too high a percentage of my weekly total so I want to rectify this.

    Tues 02/12 Club Session:
Headed up to the club in the freezing cold and changed into the spikes for the session of 5 x 1k (917m really). Last night was the first time I've started doing the reps while still wearing my jacket as it was so cold. The first rep was relatively slow (going through half way in 1:45) as we all tried to get into the flow of the session. The reps got faster after the first and the jacket came off (going through half way for the remaining reps in 1:42-1:38). The last rep was the fastest as we just wanted to the session over with and to get home to a warm shower. 2 mile warm down. Reps were 3:30, 3:25, 3:23, 3:25, 3:20.

Wed 03/12 AM Runmute into work:
Did have to be in work as early as last week which meant I could take a longer route and get a good 40 mins Easy in on the way. Legs a little tired after yesterdays session followed by a poor nights sleep.

    Wed 03/12 PM Runmute home:
about 30 minutes in the dark and cold. Had the headlamp with me for the section through Castletown house with no lights. A nice night and very atmospheric with the fog rolling in over the fields.

    Thurs 04/12 40 min Easy:
Just a nice little easy run to keep the legs ticking over ahead of Saturday. Did a familiar lap around Celbridge.

Rest day today and then Jingle Bells 5k in the morning.

Jingle Bells 5k gun time 18:43 chip time 18:36. So a 7second pb. Happy with that.

    Sat 06/12: Jingle Bells 5k.

This race had always been on the cards as it one of the few I do every year since I started running. However with the injury in August and the 6 weeks no running and the subsequent recovery I had no idea how this was going to go. The parkrun I'd ran a few weeks ago was a tester to try and gauge fitness and speed and from that I figures sub 19 should be on the cards. So with that in mind I headed out on Saturday morning with the aim of beating last years time (18:56) and see what happens. I parked down at the Garda boat club and used the jog to the club house and then to the start as my warm up. Bumped into a familiar Tallaght face in the club house and had a quick chat and then headed to into the park (I was beaten last year by the Tallaght runner so I wanted to try finish ahead of him). Once in the park I met lost of familiar faces, some fellow club members, Boardsies (TJ, AMK, CM) and some lurkers that I've met at a few races before (read the AR forums but don't post). I dropped my bag, jacket and watch into the bag drop and made my way to the start.

Once I got going I settle into a nice rhythm between two club mates up until we hit Chesterfield Avenue. Once the crowd spread out a bit myself on one of the club mates pushed on (Him going further ahead). About mid way up Chesterfield TJ and OFAR went past. I decided not to go with them but keep them in sight. I kept pushing hard up Chesterfield and went past the Tallaght runner. Once we turned off I kept the effort up and it felt alot easier on the legs. At this stage I started to pass people and regained some ground on OFAR and TJ. At around the 3.5/4k mark I could see TJ pulling away from OFAR and made a move to go past too as I could see him slowing. As I went past I told him not to let TJ get any further away, but as he mentioned in his log he had no idea what I'd said. I was still making up some ground on TJ as we hit the down hill so I pushed a little harder but was unable to catch him. Had a quick look at the screen after the finish and it had me down as 18:43 on the clock so I was happy to have matched my PB from May. Was even happier to see the chip time on the text later on. 18:36 and 140th.

Was good to have a chat with some of the many boardsies (AMK, TJ, CM, Adrian, pconn, Aero, Yaboya) albeit briefly after the race. Headed back to the club house for a bit with CM, Yaboya and Adrian in search of the chocolate cake but none could be found (myself and Yaboya checked both rooms and couldn't see it). Didn't stay long as I had to get home to bring the kids to my work Christmas party.

I'm delighted with the result when thinking back at it as I didn't think I was in anything near pb shape. The race itself went really well and didn't feel anywhere near as hard as the effort I put into the parkrun a few weeks ago. The plan now is to race the Tom Brennan on New Years day and see if I can push it a little more. I still don't feel like I'm in as good a shape as I was in before getting injured but this was definitely a huge step in the right direction.

    Sunday 7/12 Rest

    Monday 8/12 60 mins Easy:
Fairly run of the mill easy run, legs seem to have recovered well since Saturday. I waited until a little later than usual to get out for this due to the icy paths. My highlight of the run was passing by a ISPCA inspector as he was checking in on horses in the fields around work.

Nice report Dave - delighted I managed to hold you off too - even if I didn't know you where chasing me down :D.

How does the scoring system for the smackdown we had planned work again?? :D

    Tues 9/12 60 mins Easy:
A nice easy run in the cold. Managed to avoid the rain, however had more trouble trying to avoid people with umbrellas. Did the usual loop with a bit along the trails of Castletown house.

Weds 10/12 AM 25 min Runmute:
Run into work. I was expecting it to be colder so I ended up overdressed. Thankfully it was only a short run.

Wed 10/12 PM 40 min Easy Runmute:
Did a looping run home. Ended up picking a route that was straight into a headwind for a large part. Legs were feeling good after the two runs.

    Thurs 11/12 55 mins Easy;
Work party is on tonight so I had to get this done before work. Didn't have a car with me either so I dropped clothes and lunch into work last night so I'd have as little to carry as possible. Was a fine run, I was a bit tired and hungry and in no mood to fight against the wind so was happy to get it done.

    Fri 12/12 100mins LSR:
One of the joys of not drinking meant I could sneak out for my long run while the rest of the office were nursing sore heads after the party last night. Headed over to Leixlip and then took in some miles along the canal before heading back to Celbridge and back into work.

    Sat 13/12 50 mins V. Easy:
Was very icy this morning so I was only too happy to keep the pace very easy. Headed down to Casltetown House and did some laps on the grass and then back home again.

    Sun 14/12 Rest:
Headed over to the club to help marshal the Kildare Fit for Life XC the club were hosting. Was a very enjoyable experience to see a decent number of runners competing.

    Mon 15/12 45 mins:
Was over in Carton House at a work event in the morning which meant my time would be limited to get out for a run. Didn't help that the wife's car is in the garage so I ended up running home from work. Did a couple of faster miles in the middle of the run as the legs really wanted to push it after spending the morning sitting down.

Tues 16/12 40 min Easy Runmute:
Run into work this morning. Nothing particularly interesting about this run other than it was quite a mild morning.

I had planned on running the Tom Brennan 5k on New Years Day but that has changed. The club are running a handicapped 5k XC on the 3rd so I'm going to do that instead.

Tues 16/12 PM Runmute 20 mins Easy:
Run from work to pick up the car from the garage.

    Wed 17/12 65 mins Easy:
Was a little later than usual getting out for this one. Ended up suffering a bit towards the end after a day of excess.

    Thurs 18/12 Club Session:
The clubs planned session tonight was a pyramid session 500/1000/1500/1000/500 all with 90s recovery. As usual the actual distances were off as we used the outside lane of the grass track. We ran the session as 1 lap/2 laps/3laps/2laps/1lap with each lap being about 460ish meters. Did a 2 mile warm up out on the roads as I knew the track would be fairly bad in patches. changed into my spikes and was ready to go. The first rep was grand as we settled into a rhythm. For the next rep we went through half way faster than the first rep so was a little worried we'd given it too much but it wasn't so. The third we was a bit of a slog and the second last rep was a little more controlled. A bit of banter before the last rep meant it was going to be a hard effort as people were pushing for position. Myself and another lad put the foot down with about 250 to go and just blasted out as mush of the rep as possible. Reps: 1:40 (1 lap), 3:17 (2 laps), 5:02 (3 laps), 3:20 (2 laps), 1:27 (1 lap). Did the usual 2 mile warm down afterwards.

    Fri 19/12 95 mins LSR:
With a busy weekend ahead and a quiet day in work meant I could take the chance to get my LSR in today. Since this was going to be on tired legs after last night I kept the pace handy and the duration to 95 mins. Ran from work out into Leixlip, down the canal, back downs Captains hill and into Lucan. Back through Leixlip and into Casltetown house grounds and into work. Legs felt tired and took a couple of miles to warm to the idea of the run, however towards the end they came to life a bit more and the last few miles felt the easiest of then lot.

I'll try get out again over the weekend but there's no guarantee at the moment.

    Sat 20/12 Rest

    Sun 21/12 60 mins Easy:
Managed to get out for an hour on Sunday morning. Nice pleasant run, pace was nice and comfortable and the legs felt good after the rest day yesterday.

    Mon 22/12 65 mins Easy:
Another grand run in the wind and the rain. Enjoyed this and threw in 6 x 20 second strides just to mix it up a little.

    Tues 23/12 Club Session.
Over the year I've grown to quite enjoy the 800s with the club, not too long not too short and always a fairly tough session. Went up to this session at an earlier time than usual as there were no other groups using the track. Usual 2 miles or so warm up. The first track was in a generally poor condition and the wind, rain and cold meant we were all in for a tough time. The first couple of reps were about finding our pace and then we kept the pace consistent. A few of us were under the impression that only 6 reps were on the card so we pushed the 6th only to find out we had a 7th afterwards. Not wanting to be the one to sit out we all jump back into what was our slowest rep of the night. 2 mile warm down afterwards.
    Reps: 2:59, 2:57, 2:56, 2:56, 2:59, 2:55, 3:03

    Wed 24/12 50 mins Easy,
Don't remember much about this one other than that I should have had some more to eat after last nights session as I did this before breakfast and struggled with the energy levels towards the end. I'm chalking that up to lack of food.

    Thurs 25/12 Rest

    Fri 26/12 40 mins Easy
Was out in Laytown at the in-laws for this so kept it fairly short. Was freezing out and the wind was cutting right through me so I upped the pace and ran at the faster end of Easy to get back indoors as quickly as possible.

    Sat 27/12 Rest

    Sun 28/12 90 mins LSR
Waited as late as possible to get this in so the paths around Celbridge wouldn't be too icy. Picked out a route that would allow me run in areas were the ice should have melted. Ran from my house through the village and out towards Leixlip. Once I got to the roundabout at Intel I turned around and headed back into Celbridge taking a detour into Castletown house for a little bit. Legs feeling good after what ended up being a decent week.

    Mon 29/12 60 mins Easy
Was up early for this one as the chance of company from one of the club mates mean a nice break from solitary running. With the weather so bad and the path/roads lethal we met in Castletown House and just stuck to the trails and grounds doing a few laps of just over 2 miles. Was definitely the coldest I've run in for a long time. By the end the buff I was wearing had a solid layer of ice on it.

Was happy enough with last weeks running, I had a step back week penciled in anyway and the body is feeling good and rested now. Club session tonight and then easy running until the 5k XC on Saturday morning. Time to start looking at what races to do next year and get a plan and some goals together....

    Tues 30/12 Club Session:
After the previous few icy days I decided to drive to the track for the club session which meant I'd have a shorter warm up and cool down than normal. The Club session itself was 3 x '2k' with 90 second recovery. The '2k' worked out at 1850m or ~1.15 miles. The first rep started off slow enough for the first lap (4 laps in total) and then the group started to get a bit fidgety and people started to push on. We ended up getting faster each lap. Finished the first rep in 6:59 going through the mile mark in 6:10. Second lap was much of the same but this time I went out in front after the first bend to control the pace a little for the first 2 laps. Again the pace gradually increased with each lap and we went through the mile mark in 6:14 finishing the rep in 7:02. Final rep followed the same profile and went through the mile in 6:17 and the rep in 7:06. Had to cut my warm down a little short as I was booted off the track as the lads want to lock up and head home.

    Wed 31/12 60 mins Easy:
This was a tough enough run on tired legs. Thankfully I'd learnt my lesson from last week and had a decent meal after last nights session so the energy levels didn't wain at all.

    Thurs 1/1 65 mins Easy:
More tired legs and this time a strong wind to cope with as well on the second half of the run.

    Fri 2/1 40 mins Easy:
A handy enough run just keeping the legs ticking over with the club race on tomorrow morning.

Not really expecting much from tomorrows race and will be happy with a good, tough run. Of course that said its a club race so there will be some bragging rights and banter to go with the finish.

    Right so 2014 in review.

So the big thing for me this year was joining a club. I feel its brought me on leaps and bounds and made me a much better runner. One of the big improvements I feel I've made is getting some of my PB's in line with each other. I've thrown in a table below to illustrate over the 4 main distances I've raced.

    Distance |2013 PB|2013 VDot |2014 PB|2014 VDot
    5km|18:47|53.6 |18:36|54.2
    5 mile|36.18|45 |31:16|53
    10km|40:47|50.5 |39.09|53.3
    1/2 Marathon|1:31:13|50.2|1:28:29|52

That said some of the results skew the reading. The 5 mile from 2013 was in January while the others were from the August on wards. Of the 2014 results the 1/2 time might seem like the weakest but it was run at the national half so a fairly tough course. I was feeling confident of getting that down further before I got injured.

The races I'm happiest with from the year are the 10k in Fingal (39:09), first time going sub 40 and I felt I'd run a good race pushing hard from the start, and the National Half (1:28:29), a tough course and I ran a fairly consistent race primarily on feel and pushed myself hard again. Both these races stand out for me as I felt I ran them as near to perfect as I was capable at the time.

The biggest disappointment was always going to be not getting to run the marathon due to injury after training hard up until August for it. I felt I was in great shape and was only getting better before I stupidly ran a 20 miler 6 days after racing a tough half too fast and picked up an injury. 4 weeks of no running and 6 weeks from injury to running comfortably meant I was never going to be able to make the start line. It kept me from running at least 4 races, the Race Series 1/2, Celbridge 5k, Donadea 10k and DCM, all of which I felt I was in good enough shape to PB in. Of these 4 races I was actually most disappointed to miss the Race Series half at the time as I felt I could push 1:26 or lower.

That said since the injury I've had a couple of good months training and regaining strength, which were topped off with a surprise PB in the JB 5k in December. Mileage wise I ran 1924 miles compared to 1976 in 2013. Obviously I was well on my way to breaking 2000 miles before the injury.

Anyway onto 2015. The main aim for the first half of the year will be 5k and 10k and generally getting faster. I'm reluctant to put a time goal on either these as I've no idea what I could be capable of with a good 6 months of speed work. If come the summer I find myself in good enough shape I may consider the marathon again but I'm not committing to it yet. It will depend on if I can commit to the mileage to do it properly, ie keep the LSR less than 25% of my weekly mileage (no more 20 mile runs in a 50 mile week).

    Up coming races:
Jan: Club XC 5k, (no Raheny 5 mile this year)
    Feb: Rathcoffey 10k
March: Kildare road race championships (Intermediate and Senior)
    April: K-Club 10k
    May: 2 of Leixlip/Tallaght/Lucan 5k's

Thats all I've planned for now. I'll definitely be throwing in some more 5k's along the way I just haven't had a chance to look at whats on yet. I'll probably be racing the National half and some of the Race series as well.

    Sat 03/01 Club XC 5k
Was up to the club nice and early for this. A poor nights sleep and some food indulgence meant I'd be happy just getting around the course. Got there an registered and went for a recce of the course with some of the lads to see what damage had been done by the earlier rain. The route was 4 laps of about 1200m, 400m of which was on the gravel track behind the grass track with the rest on the grass, zigzagging around the track and the infield, and then 200m or so after the first lap to the finish. The route was in pretty poor condition, some very swampy sections on the infield and about a 1/3 of the gravel track was under icy water. This was going to be an interesting run. Decided to throw on the spikes, the benefit they would give me on the grass would outweigh any loss on the soft gravel.

There was a group of about 5 of us at the same handicap starting together so my goal was to stay in the group and as close to one of the faster lads as possible. I ended up going off too fast for the first section on the grass and got a bit ahead of the group. By the time we hit the gravel track the lads had caught up (or I'd slowed down) and I was happy to sit in the group for a while. The plan for the water features was to just plow through them as fast as I could and make as much of a mess as possible. This ended up highly entertaining as the number of people edging around the water got soaked by those going straight through. After about 2 laps the group broke up some more, 1 guy going ahead and a couple dropping off the back. This left myself and another working together for the rest of the race. I'd take the lead on the grass as I had the spikes on and he'd lead on the gravel in trail shoes and we just dragged each other around. By the 3rd and 4th laps the grass track was getting pretty bad from the 50 or so runners and the infield was a mess. Even in spikes I wasn't sure if my foot was coming back out bare with each step. On the last lap we were coming up on some poor kid as he approached the larger of the puddles, we both made a conscious effort to get around him before the water as he was tiny and would have been washed away by the two of us plowing through the water. In the end I was pipped at the line as I didn't have enough in the tank to kick on in the last 200m. Time was about 20 minutes, but I was happy to finish a couple of second behind my club mate who was well ahead of me in the JB 5k (18:13).

Overall a tough run but a highly enjoyable experience getting covered in mud and soaked.

    Sun 4/01 90 mins LSR
Headed out nice and early for this with one of the lads. I was happy to go at an easy pace as the legs were a bit tired from yesterdays race. Turns out the legs were grand as after the first 2 miles the pace quickly dropped in the 7:4x pace and stayed there for the duration of the run. Headed into Maynooth and then back into Leixlip along the main road before heading back in Celbridge. Splits were: 8:26, 8:03, 7:39, 7:45, 7:53, 7:45, 7:47, 7:46, 7:45, 7:46, 7:43, 7:40 (0.7).

    Mon 5/01 65 mins Easy.
Legs were pretty tired this morning so when I got out I had planned on only doing about 50-55 mins. Once I got going I was really enjoying the run so ended up staying out longer for the 65 minutes. Pace was a good 30s slower than yesterdays run thankfully so the legs are feeling better now than before the run.

    Tues 6/01/2015 Club Session:
Headed up to the club in plenty of time to get a good warm up done before the session. Plan was for 6 x 1k ( 2laps of the outside of the track) with 90 seconds recovery. I knew going into this it would be tough as the legs were still feeling the effect of the race on Saturday morning. The reps themselves were grand and i was happy to just tuck into the group behind some of the lads I'd the same handicap as at the race. Reps were a little on the slow side but I was happy with the effort given how the legs felt. Reps 3:30, 3:28, 3:24, 3:21, 3:25, 3:20.

Weds 7/01/2015 35 mins Easy AM, 40 mins Easy PM:
    Runmute to and from work.

    Thurs 8/01/2015 Club Session
I decide this was the week to return to doing two sessions a week so was curious as to how I would feel after this. The session was the same as the pyramid session I did a few weeks ago 1 lap/2 laps/3 laps/2 laps/1 lap all done on the outside lane of the track. First two sections were done a little on the fast side considering there was a strong wide to fight against. After that the next 2 sections were grand and then the last rep was done as hard as I could. Reps 1:35 (1 lap), 3:19 (2 laps), 5:07 (3 laps), 3:24 (2 laps), 1:30 (1 lap)

    Fri 9/01/2015 50 mins Easy
Easy enough run in the wind and the rain around a familiar route at lunch.

Sun 11/01/2015 95 mins Easy LSR
Headed out with a group from the club at a slightly later time than usual. Headed along the usual route up into Maynooth and then into Carton House and back into Celbridge. Everything was going grand until we hit Carton avenue. As we were making our way towards Carton House one of the lads clipped my trailing leg which caused me to loose my balance. Ended up coming down on my right hand side and hit my shoulder, hip and knee. Took a few minutes to check myself and get going again. Ended up with some pretty bad grazes and bruising on my shoulder, hip and knee. Once I got going again I was able to continue on and finished out the run. Spent the rest of the day nursing my bruises and cuts. Hip was quite sore in the evening but that seemed to be purely down to some bruising.

    Mon 12/01/2015 60 mins Easy.
Wasn't really sure if I'd get out at all today as I wasn't sure how the body would feel today. As it turns out I didn't feel too bad. Left getting out as late as I could and did some quick testing on the sore parts of my body to see if they'd be ok (make sure none of my injuries would get any worse from going out on them). The first mile I was a bit unsure but once I got into it my body felt fine. Had originally planned on just doing about 40 mins but once I knew the body was willing I kept going for the full 60 mins. Knee a little stiff afterwards but feels grand now.

    Tues 13/01/2015 Club Session:
The plan today was for 7 x 800m. Since I'm on a step back week I was happy to drive straight to the track and forgo some of the miles I'd normally get in around the club sessions. Reps were: 3:05, 2:59, 2:58, 2:58, 2:58, 3:00, 2:58. The track was frozen in some parts so was happy enough with how it went.

    Wed 14/01/2015 25mins AM 35 PM Runmute:
A shorter than usual runmute as I'd no desire to be out at all.

    Thurs 15/01 Rest.
Was thankful of the planned rest day since it was one of the kids birthdays and the legs had been feeling a bit meh since the fall on Sunday.

    Fri 16/01 LSR 95 mins:
Legs were feeling much better this morning. Since I was well rested I took the opportunity to get my long run for the week in. Left work headed around Celbridge, doing loops of the village before doing some miles in Castletown House before heading back to work. Body was feeling good so upped the pace for the last couple of miles while still keeping it touching easy pace.

    Sat 17/01 Rest:
Considered getting out for an hour this morning but once I saw the ice and remembered I'm on a step back week I went back to bed.

    Sun 18/01 60 mins Easy:
Woke to a small sprinkling of snow on the ground so waited until the thaw kicked in before heading out. Took the pace easy enough until I got to the trails in Castletown and then the pace crept up. The middle mile ended up a little fast as I was joined by a group of runners from Leixlip doing laps of the park. Once I'd left them I eased the pace back a little.

    Mon 19/01 65 mins Easy:
Back to the normal plan so got out just before lunch. Headed on the usual route around Celbridge but threw in a loop around one of the estates before heading into Castletown House and back to work.

    Tues 13/01/2015 Club Session:
The plan today was for 7 x 1k (2 laps so ~960m). Since I'm on a step back week I was happy to drive straight to the track and forgo some of the miles I'd normally get in around the club sessions. Reps were: 3:05, 2:59, 2:58, 2:58, 2:58, 3:00, 2:58. The track was frozen in some parts so was happy enough with how it went.

that's a tough session - although I'd double check the distance - either that or you've gained some speed recently! :pac:

My typical 1k rep times would be about 3:30.
either way - its a tough session.

Tues 20/01 AM 20 min Runmute:
Dropped the wifes car to the garage (again) before work and then headed straight to work.

    PM Club Session:
Headed up to the club nice and early to get a good 2 mile warm up in. Got fairly soaked on the way up but was surprised how warm it actually was. Got changed into the spikes and did a couple more laps of the track to get a feel of the ground. Wasn't as hard as I was expecting so was glad of the spikes. The session itself was 6 x 1k (2 laps of lane 8 or 917m) with 90 s recovery. The reps were: 3:28, 3:20, 3:22, 3:24, 3:24, 3:17. The first rep was a little slow as I still had a coat on and just wasn't comfortable so dumped it after that rep. The next 4 were grand with me tucking into the group for the first lap and then pushing on for the second. Last lap we went through half way in 1:40 and then a couple of us pushed each other to the finish as hard as we could. A couple of mile warm down and home again.

    Wed 21/01 25 min Runmute:
Legs were a little sore this morning after last nights session so went straight to work. Took my time and kept the pace in the recovery zones. Legs were feeling much better afterwards.

Wed 21/01 35 min Runmute home:
Legs were feeling much better than this morning. A fairly uneventful run home.

    Thurs 22/01 Club Session:
Plan for tonight was a pyramid session 1 lap/ 1.5 laps/ 2 laps / 3 laps/ 2 laps/ 1.5 laps/ 1 lap with 90 s recovery (standing for most but walking back to start line after the 1.5 lap reps). The usual few miles warm up and got down to the track in time to put on the spikes and do a couple of laps. The ground was fairly frozen to start with and only got worse as the session went on.
    Reps:
    1:41, 2:25, 3:24, 5:14, 3:28, 2:32, 1:29

Most of the reps were grand but i struggled a little on the 3 laps and then the 2 laps following it. After that I got back into the swing of it and pushed the last rep quite hard.

    Fri 23/01 50 mins Easy:
Legs were feeling grand so headed out for an easy run. Kept pretty much to the grounds and trails of Castletown house and then headed back into work.

    Sat 24/01 Rest.

    Sun 25/01 81 mins 'LSR':
Was short on time for this so decided to try out a new route. Headed from the house around Celbridge and then down to the canal. Did a few miles along the canal and turned off at Ardclough and took the back roads back to Celbridge. Had to fight with a headwind the first few miles but once I turned off the canal the wind was at my back. Edged the pace up a little as I headed back to Celbridge. Was happy with the run, but would have liked to have been out for longer.

    Mon 26/01 65 mins Easy:
Usual Monday easy run. Headed around Celbridge and down the Dublin road and back into Leixlip before heading into Castletown house. A couple of more miles and then headed back into work.

    Tues 27/01 Club Session:
Was running early today so drove straight to the track and headed back out onto the roads for a slightly longer warm up than usual before heading back to the track to change into the spikes. Plan for today was 6 x 1k (2 laps 917m) with 90 seconds recovery. Reps themselves were grand: 3:27, 3:20, 3:22, 3:22, 3:25, 3:17.

Weds 28/01 35min AM and 40 mins PM
    Runmute to and from work.

    Thurs 29/01 Club Session:
Part of me was hoping this would be called off once it started snowing but no such luck. Ended up heading home from work early to change the gear I had with me. Thankfully i did as it took me 40 mins to make the 3 mile journey. Headed up to the track and by the time I'd got there the snow had stopped falling but the feet were soaked through already. The plan session was 4 x 2k but only 6 of us showed up and the coach had left early so a few of us decided to change the plant o a 30 min Tempo. This ended up being far more difficult than planned as the ground/snow and gale force winds made everything alot harder. Ended up doing 30 mins @ ~6:50 min/mile. The effort for this felt more like 6:30 min/mile. Was glad to hear everyone else found it just as difficult. Definitely a session to remember at a tough stage in a race.

    Fri 30/01 50 mins Easy:
Legs were in ribbons this morning after last nights efforts. They felt like I'd run a tough XC race. Left this run until a little later than usual then headed out for a familiar route around Celbridge. Legs felt ok but the strong headwind in some sections made this a little tougher than I would have wanted. Thankfully the pace was kept easy with a few quicker sections when I had the wind at my back.

    Sat 30/01 Rest.

    Sun 01/02 90 mins LSR:
Headed out on my own for this since I'm not on any of the marathon plans so there's not much point in doing the longer runs some of the lads are doing. Did a lap of Celbridge and then headed out towards Leixlip. Did a lap around Leixlip and then headed back into Celbridge along the Dublin road. Another lap around Celbridge and I headed home for breakfast.

    Mon 02/02 60 mins Easy:
Headed out at lunchtime and had some company for the first few miles. As a result the first few miles were very easy. Once I parted way for a few more miles the pace picked up and was back to my normal easy pace.
