Same amount of points as last season at this stage. Unbeliebeable after the money spent.

LVG has shed loads of fans wrapped around his finger and licking his backside but the reality is so far the football , performances and results have been poor.

There's nothing knee-jerk about today either, can people honestly say they can list off multiple games where we played top class football that made us look on and say wow?

The performance was very lethargic and uninspired like a lot of the performances this season. While admittedly Southampton were set up very well today, many less organised teams have managed to do the same to us and its becoming very worrying.

I don't think it would have mattered too much what lineup we put out today, the way we are set up to play is far too predictable and any half decent manager has worked out how to counter it...cut off the wing-backs, stay deep and tight at the back, hit on the break et voilá. Usually when someone comes out with that I'd say 'easier said than done' etc but against us it really doesn't seem to be.

That result could make LVG think about getting in a few more players, he is either gonna stick with the system he wants or change it. If he sticks with it he will need players that match his philosophy.

Man Utd's on-loan striker Radamel Falcao stormed out of Old Trafford earlier today and told his agent to find him a new club. [ESPN Brasil]
I'd take that with a truck load of salt..

Disappointing, though credit to the Saints, they are very well organised.

We looked lost in MF today. I know the likes of Blind and Fell are just back but it simply wasn't good enough.

Just saw the highlights of the Gunners, my Jesus, Sanchez really is some beast.

Nothing earth shattering,Stevie Wonder can see the likes of Jones & Smalling can't play out of the back.

Id say that didn't happen, media trying to pounce on the loss and create views/hits

Perhaps but can't blame the guy if true.

Rvp doesn't look up to it at the moment.

To be honest we can't forget that - the Saints were brilliant today .. Their defensive record is the best in the league and it really showed. The kept Chelsea out too with ease in the end - to be honest they must be looked upon as our main rival now for 3rd. Arsenal and Spurs improving too will put us under pressure.

You don't need to be a genius to see that a team with all those things is going to have difficulty in possession. The manager is obviously the problem at the moment, but once again so many people try to blame the players.

Wouldn't say manager but his system is a big problem. He is much better than this ****.

3 CBs who can't just play the ball from back, wingbacks are easy to defend. With full back overlapping it's hard to track runners but with wingbacks it's always 1 vs 1 or 1 vs 2 which wingbacks loses the battle. So that's 5 players out of attacking equation.

We don't have pace up front, so at least we could use wingers to get behind defense.

we have a proper midfielder who is good in attacking third but he is not getting mins.

Relying on Smalling and Jones to bring the ball from defense is just awful thinking. We are playing with 5 defenders and 1 CM. No wonder we can't use the ball with any intent or purpose.

If Falcao was fit, hard to see how Wilson was preferred on the bench.

You'd imagine if Falcao got the three chances Mata got at the end, that he'd have finished one or two.
Though Mata is usually a good finisher, so you never know

That didn't happen. falcao was watching the game with his family, he was in his box during the game.

Hardly the end of the world, still in a better position than a lot of us. Perhaps the kick LVG needs to change things.

Alarmingly its been like that for a few games now and he's not adjusting

Van Gaal didn't say he was injured when asked.

As you say, Wilson hasn't done anything to justify his spot.

What a strange rumour to start, when a random fan on a football forum can easily debunk it. Bizarre from them.

Agreed. LVG surely has to take a look at his own decisions now and change things up. There is an excellent team in there somewhere but it is being hamstrung by his insistence on playing 532

Phil Jones is a shocking footballer, best player since Duncan Edwards my arse.

Given that this is, in LVG's own words, the first time he's had enough players fit to properly select a team, this perhaps this selection is very significant.

So interesting that Falcao, Rojo and Rafeal didn't feature.

    And that Mata did start.

People going on about defence. Can we just leave that alone until we actually start creating a reasonable amount of chances in the game. The pace and movement in the final third is very slow. Actually Falcao is one of the few players who really stands out in terms of trying to make those little darting runs to create space, but as others have pointed out, the tactic is to shuffle it out to Valencia or Shaw and hope they can get in a decent cross. A waste of having Falcao Rooney RvP Mata DiMaria as an attacking threat. We need to trust our ability to get through defensive systems, even those as good as Southampton's today, by creating width but also moving the central defensive unit about. At the moment good defensively organised teams are happy to wait us out and kill us on a break.

Anyone else get the impression that Di Maria isn't feeling it at OT? Pure speculation on my part, but I just get that impression.

Southampton were set up well today but we should be able to find a way through. We never looked like scoring. Late on Mata was the only one who looked like getting us something.

We've been getting away with it for a while now and there could be an argument that Van Gaal is the luckiest manager ever! We've robbed some teams this season, most notably Arsenal and Southampton.

The players do seem to have bought into LVG and the morale and team spirit do seem better this season which is good to see but that could all change if the results start to match how bad our performances have been.

Enough with this stupid bloody 352. Even if it could work we don't have the centre backs to play it. Hopefully we'll see a return to four at the back and an improvement in play soon.

Today is a day when it should be quite clear that this is the managers fault and not the players.

Too many players out of position against a well organised side like Southampton is asking for disaster.

I had bad feeling during week and mentioned a defeat was around corner but was hoping it was not going be today in big game.

The manager and the system at present are problem.

    LVG needs change it.
