LVG would want to wake up quite quickly. He was delighted on Friday that he basically had a full squad to pick from, yet he still persisted with 352. Why? Is he completely blind? Surely to God he can see that it just does not work. Why not play a 433? What has Wilson done to deserve a place on the bench ahead of Falcao? Why persist with Rooney and Mata in midfield when clearly neither of them is able for it?

On top of that, not a single player outside of Valencia and maybe Blind can be satisfied with that performance. Smalling and Jones are stealing a wage at this club and need to be gotten rid of ASAP. Shaw was a joke. I don't think he made a forward run all game. Rooney in the first half in particular was terrible. Fellaini brought on up front, he is 6ft 5 but he still struggles hugely to win a header. Van Persie non-existent, off limited ball I'll admit.

Hopefully LVG will realise that we need at least one CB now but preferably 2. We will not make top 4, never mind 3rd if we persist with 352. Massive improvement needed before we get dragged further down the table.

Where are people getting the 3-5-2 from? Fine, after Shaw had to go off, but that was 4 at the back before then.

LVG is doing a **** job but that wasn't part of the problem today at all.

I said it back in April, and I'd still say it now. Hire Rudi Garcia to sort this **** at United out, and fire Woodward and all our medical staff

The distribution of our defence is shambolic. Smalling, Jones and Blackett need to do passing drills for the next month.

These things happen in cycles. Like Johhny Giles said once. You had the big liverpool days in the 80's and then Manchester United in recent times. Teams come and go.

    Why not play a 443?

because its too many players :P

    assume you mean a 4-3-3?

There is nothing coming from that united team and i cant see where its going to come from, a poor performance.

RVP went down the tunnel with the physio after he came off.

Rooney wasn't a whole lot better when he moved up front than when he was in midfield. It's a sad state when the opposition 'keeper didn't have one save to make in a game at OT,one shot on target from Saints and they scored.

Koeman set up his team perfectly to deal with our wingbacks and it worked but LVG kept the formation despite it not working.

Truly shocking. Rooney nowhere to be found. Jones is one brainless fool, can we quit kidding ourselves that he will ever develop into something decent...he's nothing between the ears.

He's the next Duncan Edwards seemingly.

We were far better to watch in the early games of the season when we were stuck in mid-table. It's getting worse by the week.

We should be doing better than that considering the money spent. I honestly couldn't say any of our signings this summer have been good considering the money spent on them.

Di Maria bar a few games at the start has looked nothing like 60m. Shaw is injured all the time. Rojo has done nothing. Falcao has been a giant flop. Herrera can't get in the team. Blind has been decent alright, but that's about it.

3 points in 4 games, LOL.
Well in fairness your injury situation is horrendous, oh wait a minute ye can't use that excuse anymore. :pac:

Di Maria and RVP were nowhere near fit today, Rooney is a striker not a holding midfielder he should be upfront and centre, the formation changes too many times through out the game too, with a squad like this injuries be damned we should be winning games like this, Juanzi might have made a difference today Mata only stepped up after RVP went off, I'm going out for a walk to burn off my disappointment in this shambles.:(

Di Maria should be playing where Rooney was,it's his best position.Where he was stuck meant he constantly had to try to beat 3 or 4 men,not his fault.Rojo has been injured but already looks a cut above what we have at the back in terms of effort & attitude.Don't know why Falcao wasn't in the squad today.

You are overreacting a bit today, the system and positions players were in hardly lent itself to our normal attacking play,it was like watching a Serie A game at times.

Worst game of the season so far, and with everyone fit. That formation is just not working

    Disagree

That's a great well drilled Southampton team

We've played worse in a good few games which is frightening to say. Sothampton away was worse being honest

Not really read anything, can only judge by what I saw.

I hate Rooney in midfield, felt like every time we got the ball on the counter, it ground to a halt. Smalling seemed poor. DiMaria and Shaw were ok first half, anonymous second.

For all people go on about our defence, we need work up front and on the wings :(

Not much in the difference anyway, no shots on target and in the end went with hoofing long balls up to Fellaini . A month ago we looked like breaking into the top 2 and were playing fairly well, were we still using 3-5-2 then, don't remember but it wouldn't surprise me if we weren't in the majority of games during that run

We played 3-5-2 all game. Jones, Smalling, Blind were CBs. Blind was LCB.

Why should Woodword lose his job? Did excellent job in summer signing players Van Gaal wanted.

We were always likely to look disjointed with so many players just coming back into the side. Typical knee-jerk type stuff being posted here.

Same old, same old.RVP making runs and calling for the ball but the default action is play it out wide-99% of the time to Valencia who can't cross a ball.Rinse & repeat.Rooney out of midfield & Herrera in,at least he looks forward for a pass instead of a hollywood pass.
As you say,our counter attacks just died a death, players seemed to run to a point then stop,no runners beyond the strikers or on the overlap. It's not rocket science but they seem to be brain dead when it comes to this.

And we made it easy for them by hoofing the ball forward all game, it was easy to defend.

Normal back 4 with overlapping full backs is pain in ass to defend. Wingbacks with no support at all is easy to defend and all opposition teams have to do is stay narrow as wingbacks are easy to defend.
