He didn't say that at all! He said in relation to our commercial revenue us spending that kind of money is akin to a smaller club spending 25 million.

    He is not wrong

He's not wrong, its just a stupid mentality, the same type of mentality that saw Liverpool justifying £35m on Andy Carroll because they were getting £50m for Torres.

I could easily afford to spend €30 on a bacon sandwich this morning, but it would be stupid for me to do so when they're only worth a few quid. Just because United can afford €150m for Bale still does not make him worth that kind of money.

I would be happy with Hummels, Varane, Strootman and Reus.
Not asking for much, then a right back too...

That's a bit of a silly statement. So your saying that since we are Manchester United we should be paying over the odds on players (60+) while Chelsea can sign the likes of Costa and fabregas for around the 30 million mark?
Let me explain as you don't seem to be able to understand. Bale is a 60m pus player. If he becomes available for 60 r 70 then why not. I'm not saying we should pay over the odds I'm saying that we an afford to compete for the top players if they are available.
Seen as you brought up Chelsea well the are being linked with a move for Messi. What price do you put on him???
Yes Fabergas was a steal at 30m or so. But is Bony a 30m player?? Not IMO but City just go and pay the money and get the player they want. There us no point keeping the money in the bank and not spending it. Look at Arsenal.

Its not a stupid mentality. Whats stupid is bringing Andy Carroll up as an example of quality player. And I never said we should pay 150m for Bale.
I suggest you sit down with your bacon sandwich and read my post again

Prices for players is very much relative. Who's to say that bale is a 60 million player? Players are only worth what another club is willing to pay. Chelsea were only willing to pay 25 million for fabregas because they knew he wanted to leave and was happy to join Chelsea. We bid 45 million the year before and didn't sign him. If the club continues to see money as no object and are happy to keep paying more and more for each player then the long term future of the club could be very bleak.

Arsenal are admirable in my eyes. If Chelsea and City didn't get bought by mega rich owners they'd be our closest rival. Probably wouldn't have lost all of their best players to Man City etc. either.

And I wouldn't pay it, I would choose something else from somewhere else to satisfy my urge for that sweet sweet bacon.

Some MOTD stuff really does make you wonder. Just now, "Man Utd never really replaced Schmeichel until De Gea came along."

They kind of forgot about a certain Dutch librarian looking fella who has a decent argument to have been just as good as Schmeichel, at his best. Seriously, how the hell do you forget him!?

Real Madrid seem to think that Bale is a 60m plus player. So did Utd and Spurs.
I'm not saying money is no object. I'm saying we are one of 6 or 7 clubs who can compete in the transfer market for the top players. If we are competing with Real, Barca, Bayern M for a player then we may gave to pay more and give him more wages than those clubs would have as at the moment they are where the top players want to be.
We need a RB, CB and a middle of the park player at the moment. Name 3 top players in their positions we can get for 25 - 30m.

Don't bother with it much myself either, haven't for years - but the Sunday morning show is handy since there is literally sweet feck all else on much of the time.

Bale is a good player but I would be disgusted if the club paid over 100 m for him.For the kind of money quoted United could sign Reus,Strootman and Hummels or similar players who would improve the team hugely.
I think 4 players are needed at United over the next 2 windows and I hope that those positions are filled in a sensible fashion.
I can see United signing Bale for massive money and Real then signing Deus for a fraction of the fee.I know which player I would prefer.
I'd much prefer Bale. Reus is riddled with injuries and has no PL experience. Bale is a known top performer in the league and is better than Reus with minimal injury issues.

150m is way too high but 80m is reasonable imo.

Arsenal have a formation I would like to see United try.

    4 2 3 1

    RB CB CB LB
    Carrick Blind
    Herrera Rooney Di Maria
    Falcao

Obviously everyone will have an opinion on which players are selected where but I think it would be good to see.

I think this would be more the team we play against the better opposition as its a bit more solid. Against all the rest I'd be taking out Blind and moving to the diamond with RVP coming in up top or Rooney moving up front with Mata in at 10

Yeah i was thinking that too. To be honest i'd be up for anything other than a 532 at this stage.
