We must be "preparing" a bid again. Ed should be tying a pretty ribbon on it any minute now...

    Some interesting quotes from Louis
"When I cannot improve my selection, then I wait," he explained to reporters. "And then I maybe have to wait a year more. Maybe you think that there are so many fantastic players, but it is not like that.

"[However,] I don’t [necessarily] prefer to wait until the summer when I can improve my selections. That I have showed with Valdes.

"When we can buy a player who can improve my selection, the club shall buy. Money is not interesting. It is always quality of the players in comparison with the other players that I have. I have to compare. I have to decide. Money doesn’t play any role."

"Now that I coach Manchester United, I expect more attacking quality," he added. "If it is not this year, then next season or the season after that. We shall improve and you shall see it."

I keep reading this ridiculous £150 million or €150 million for Bale. I honestly think if United even considered such a bid they have lost the plot. If anything I think giving Real the money they spent on him would be the absolute limit. I would love to see Bale at United but not for that money. Forget it. I use to be fully sure those kinda stories were madness in the past with our reluctance to spend anything over £30 million but now I'm just not sure. We have kinda lost lost control a bit.

It's never quite as simple as that though. How much of that £150m (if that was the actual figure) would we make back in shirt sales and sponsorship deals if we bought Bale? Given the huge fan base and worldwide appeal we have you'd have to imagine it would be substantial enough.
We rely too much on Di Maria for pace on the break as it is. We do actually need someone like him to come in. As long as we stay within FFP then I don't care how much we spend. The club is making tonnes of money.

People really need to get a clue when saying that sponsorship and jerseys will pay for a lot of a player. Utd wouldnt make a huge amount on bale jerseys and of them a lot would have had other players on the back if bale doesn't come. Justify the price tag based on on pitch stuff and attracting players not on spurious financials windfalls.

Sell Anderson to finance a move for Bale. It's the only solution.

The jersey thing and sponsorship thing would not justify that kind of money. For £150 million United could buy three £50 million players. Imagine that. Three brilliant players that would be as good as Bale. Bale is not Ronaldo or Messi. He should not be up there in the silly money category. His price was inflated because Real had to get him off Spurs who did not want to sell. Now its reported we are doubling it to buy from a team who reportedly wouldn't mind selling him.

I reckon we could buy Vidal, Cavani, and Hummels and still have change left over from that £150 million. Thats how ridiculous it is to spend all that money on Bale. I would love Bale to play for United. But spending any more than what Real paid would be stupidity.

Spot on... The amount Real spent on him was crazy. Id hate to see UTD spend that on Bale.
Get Reus(anyone decent) for a quarter of that and strenghtn the defence is the sensible thing to do.

I would take figures quoted for bale with a pinch of salt. However we shouldn't be too worried about Utd spending 70 or 80million on a player. Utd spending this kind of money on a player is similar to smaller clubs spending 20 or 25million on a player as our commercial side and gate receipts can allow us to do so. If the money is there then spend it

That's a bit of a silly statement. So your saying that since we are Manchester United we should be paying over the odds on players (60+) while Chelsea can sign the likes of Costa and fabregas for around the 30 million mark?

I understand what your saying but I do not think that is good for the club or the future of football. You are right though as £80million seems to be the ceiling price at the moment for top players. And United do not have endless amounts of money all of a sudden. As soon as one player becomes a £100 million player then all of a sudden thats the average price for all the top players. We wont be able to negotiate with any club for a decent price if we spend £150 million on Gareth Bale.

I understand this is all paper rumours so I hope United are not even contemplating such a bid. If it turned out to be true I'd be disgusted. It will affect our chances of trying to solve other problems with the team. Every players price will be inflated beyond belief.

Bale is a good player but I would be disgusted if the club paid over 100 m for him.For the kind of money quoted United could sign Reus,Strootman and Hummels or similar players who would improve the team hugely.
I think 4 players are needed at United over the next 2 windows and I hope that those positions are filled in a sensible fashion.
I can see United signing Bale for massive money and Real then signing Deus for a fraction of the fee.I know which player I would prefer.

He didn't say that at all! He said in relation to our commercial revenue us spending that kind of money is akin to a smaller club spending 25 million.

    He is not wrong
