Here it was not the pop/rock set we associate with Britain or the US. It was generally a matter of survival through poverty and unemployment. I spent them at school while my parents worked day and night to afford to keep us there to leaving cert.

Last book I read from start to finish was (I think) Jamrach's Menagerie by Carol Birch. A good read overall, quite depressing and drags in parts but very well written. Since then sadly I haven't been able to focus on books at all; I'll start one and then get distracted and give up on it.

Really have to get into reading again.
