And my opinion is that the team is badly unbalanced trying to squeeze in 3 strikers. Our performances this season support my opinion.

If you want all the best players on the field, then sure, play Rooney, RVP and Falcao. If you want the best team, then drop one of them.

in fairness, we have had a serious injury list, constant chopping and changing, hard to get good rhythm with the team but unbeaten in 11, onwards and upwards.

I'd prefer to see united with just 1 of rvp/falcao up front. Atm the ball is played up to them quickly but neither of them can hold onto it. I'd prefer to see
    herrera
    carrick---di maria
    mata----rooney
    rvp

Play through the middle mainly and spread it out to fb's when they get into space. The current tactics seem to get it wide everytime and teams are ready for that.

Does anyone really think that Victor Valdes came here to sit on the bench? He's a very good goalkeeper and would start for most of the teams in the Champions League bar maybe two or three. Unless his knee is is a terrible condition then I imagine that he's a replacement for De Gea.

One of Mendes' close journalists wrote a piece in AS saying that essentially De Gea feels as if he has completed his time at United.

i would like to see De Gea improve his distribution this year. He's usually one of the better keepers but for some reason this season his kicking hasn't been to his usual standard. I wouldn't sell him for anything less than £50M. Anything less than that and we're being robbed.

My gut feeling is that DDG will stay around for least few more seasons.

I think he will eventually move back to Spain, at some stage, but hopefully if we get CL again we will see him not even think about leaving for while.

Apparently DDG is in talks for a new contract anyway.

Very few teams, especially top teams in the CL, would take a risk on someone of his age who hasn't played a competitive game in months and months, and make him their first choice. Thats without factoring in the wages he would want, and the fact that the teams who would take that risk then would be of a lower standard than what he's used to.

But at United, he gets to play and train with one of Europe's finest teams, he's not got a huge amount of expectation on him as he continues his rehabilitation, he's getting a wage he wants with the possibility over the next 18-30 months to win stuff, and he gets to work with a manager he respects. He should compete for first team time, all players in the squad should.

But honestly, for United, it's a no risk backup keeper with the potential to challenge for a first team spot who brings experience, but who is a short term back up. If Valdes was signed as De Gea's replacement, it would be a bloody disgrace, because we don't know what level he's at.

I am amazed Liverpool didn't approach Valdes or maybe he turned them down. He is a very underrated goalkeeper but i hope he is not a replacement for De Gea.

    According to Andy Mitten...

Liverpool wanted Valdes and there was an offer from Juventus, too. He didn't feel right about either club, especially Liverpool even though their goalkeeping situation is far more fraught than United's and he could have been a realistic first-choice custodian.

Chelsea have revolutionised the approach to goalkeeping. The best goalkeeper over the last decade and a half, a rock, a bastion, Petr Cech. Resurrected after a near death experience to return as the most complete keeper we've seen. A leader who brought Chelsea leagues, cups and a champions league.

Now the best young keeper in the world nay the best keeper in the world. A domineering presence already showing the skills of Lev Yashin, the dominance of Kahn and the frame of Van der Sar. No better player to mentor the young Belgian. A colossus for Athleti and a hero of the Vicente Calderón. Lightning footwork, unquestioned bravery, jedi like reflexes. A commanding and calming presence allowing the beautiful game to be played out in front of him and the distribution to instigate attacks like a regista.

a bit OTT, yea you dont know what level he is at, but he has been training with United for the last 3 or 4 months so i would imagine van gaal and the goalkeeping coach know he is at a very high level or else he wouldnt have been offered an 18 month contract with the option of another year..

    poor Amos and Johnstone!

Lindergaard and Amos are surely on their way. Would one leave during this window?

They both kind of have to. Both have great potential but just are not good enough to beat the likes of De Gea and Valdes. Lindegaard could very much fit into many other BPL sides

No one can know what level he's actually at; training and reserve matches are not the same as playing in competitive league and cup matches, and certainly not an indicator if he would be a "replacement" for De Gea.
Furthermore, an 18 month contract is as non-committal as they come and offers nothing with regards assurances. By the summer, he'll be down to 12 months (right, with an extra year) and could easily be sold for a small fee for first team football. It screams "Backup until we see how you are or until we find someone better" contract.

I think people saying DDG will leave in the summer for Real ,are forgetting that Casillas is far from finished. He will be 34 at the start of next season so he could have at least 2 more years left.I wouldn't be worried about DDG leaving this year but could see him leave in 2 or 3 years time.

I really don't think you have the expertise to announce the above as fact.

Van Gaal seems to think he's capable of judging Valdes from three months of training him fine.

Rather than your assertion that his level is still an unknown, I'd be more inclined to think it would be laughable for a coach at that level not to be able to say with a high degree of confidence whether a player is good enough or not after training him all this time.

Casillas is done, I thought he would have lasted longer.

well, its common at united for players over 30 to only get 1 year contracts, so the fact he has signed an 18 month contract with the option of another makes me think he wont be sold in the summer
