Van Gaal adds that Daley Blind has trained this week & Marcos Rojo will do so tomorrow. Ashley Young is #mufc's only injured player.

Good to see them all back! LVG not risking Raf against Saints.

Lingard back as well. Himself and Powell are with the reserves tonight. So just Young and Thorpe out now?

It's kinda weird seeing utd buying players that of the level they are atm.

I think I'd say the opposite. Unless you're absolutely dominating games, then I think that extra quality between the sticks is important for winning the big prizes. The same as strikers really. At least keepers, of all standards, tend to be cheaper than strikers.

Edit: Funny, as soon as I pressed post I thought of Hart winning the league with City and Lehman with Arsenal... also Barthez winning World and European Cups. Strong support for your case, but I'm still not sure.

quality teams need quality keepers. Their involvement is normally much less, so they need to be mentally stronger, to maintain focus during the game, utilise a number of small drills during the game, and then when called upon, which might one save, it has to be made. And that can be the difference.

It still amazes me how many top flight keepers still don't do drills as play is ongoing elsewhere in the pitch. You'll never see it on TV, but top keepers, when their team is dominating, are doing little moves around the box, keeping focused and alert and on their toes.

You know the keepers who just stand planted on freekicks, or strikes? Arn't doing their little drills to keep focused and alert, so when they see that ball come last minute, their brain and body don't react, and they stand their looking stupid.

Pet hate as a former goalkeeper, keepers who just stand planted. Prominent goalkeeping coach told me that's how you tell a stupid goalkeeper :)

peter schmeichel was left planted on his feet a lot of times, probably one of the best goalkeeper's of all time :p

    The tide is turning!

The day will come when we will be injury free. ;)

Anyway glad to hear the DDG talks are going along nicely.

We need a strong performance this weekend.

Win and we are in a nice position again, anything less and we open the door a little.

Alternatively, it's also how you tell the showy posers from the talented ones. The guys you are talking about are the sort that also fancy themselves as outfielders and that scream at the defence for their own mistakes.

Staying mentally alert has nothing to do with doing drills on the edge of the box.

just with all the talk of de Gea leaving, has anyone for one second thought about iker casillas?

He is back in favour at real Madrid, 16 years in the first team and still only 33. he has at least 2 good years left in him with Madrid. He has a massive say in what goes on at the club.

I would be of the opinion that de gea WILL sign a new contract with Man utd and if his form continues the way it has been, inevitably he will sign for real Madrid but 2 or 3 years down the line.
This is how I see it playing out. Anybody that thinks we will keep DeGea for his whole career is ignoring history and the fact that players will eventually want to go home sooner rather than later, all things being equal.

Same reason why I think Bale will end up back in England before he is 30. It's just the way things go.

Bale has said he wants his kids to go to school in england hasn't he?

Shame about Young. Earned his first team place recently.

Next target now is a fully fit squad. Great news that all bar one are injury free but fully fit players will be fantastic.

If you want to go crazy...

    .....Rooney....Carrick...Di Maria.....

    .....................Mata....................

    ...............RVP...........Falcao........

Not endorsing Rooney in midfield mind you.

I hope its one of the forwards.

I fear it will be mata and we will have no balance

That's the way it should be imo, I'd like to see Falcao given a chance to hit form like RVP was given but I doubt it

Just heard Stephanie Roche on The Last Word talking about the Puskas Awards, and it prompted me to go over to Fifa.com and give her a vote of support. But I really don't think I can vote against this goal...

As well as being the genuine best goal out of the 3 I.M.O., it now has United all over it; Sublime ball from Blind, finish from RVP, and an elated LVG at the end for the high five.

Can't wait to see Blind back in action for us, be it this weekend or next.

This is our best midfield/Attack imo.

    Herrera/Fellaini - Carrick - Di Maria

    Mata

    Rooney RVP/Falcao

Cant wait to have Blind back in midfield, I take it he's not fit enough to play yet?
Anyone got a link to the press conference from today by any chance?
