    The Victor Valdes stuff is interesting.

    If what James Horncastle said on Football Weekly today is true (Dea Gea out, Krul in), he and Krul would be a League/Cup pairing perhaps?

    It was John Ashdown who mentioned that not James Horncastle.

    Ian Ladyman, somebody with good United links, says contract talks between United and De Gea are moving rapidly in the right direction.

    Is this the same Krul that couldn't keep his place in van Gaal's Dutch team?

    IF De Gea does leave and I don't think he will, then wouldn't an obvious target be Cillessen?

    Why? Because he's Dutch?

    I thought he was average enough at the WC tbh, didn't look United standard at all.

    He's 25, still pretty young for a keeper. Van Gaal obviously rates him enough to make him Dutch #1 and he came up through the Ajax youth system which Van Gaal apparently favours. Ajax generally don't command great fees for players and having a couple years under the tutelage of Valdes could only help him.

    I'm just saying it makes more sense than Krul.

    It makes more sense than Krul given van Gaal obviously rates Cillessen higher but that in itself doesn't make him good enough for United.

    If de Gea was to leave, it'd be Valdes that gets a shot at being #1 imo, not that I think de Gea will leave soon.

    I heard that on Football Weekly extra today as well. The bloke making the comments did clearly say there is some "unsourced comments". As in, ****e talk from people putting 1 + 1 together and getting 3.

    Can't see De Gea leaving. Wouldn't even entertain the notion. Comments earlier in the season from his father were clear in that he has great love for the club and the fans after the support they have given him after his difficult start and that he believes something big is happening at the club. Not to mention that he would find it overly difficult to line out for Real Madrid.

    Not sure what I'm believing this month. Van Gaal clearly stays tight lipped on transfer policy and even targets. I guess it is likely that a defender of some sort was to come into the club?

    On a seperate note, Ballotelli to PSG picking up serious pace, adding weight to the stories earlier in the week Cavani might be shipped out now, after his latest bust up, rather then waiting for the summer.

    James Ducker reporting the same thing.

    Jamie CarragherVerified account ‏@Carra23 Victor Valdes is a very good signing for Man Utd. Be interesting to see how much De Gea eventually costs Real Madrid though.

    Pretty much all the chatter from the higher tiered journalists is that De Gea's new contract is a top priority and is moving rapidly in the right direction. Only talk of De Gea leaving are non United fans (as per the above tweet) and people who are panicking without actually having much to back up their worries.

    100% confident De Gea is staying. Will happily do a €10 charity bet he will still be with us by the end of the year too :)

    Ha! Probably more than Sterling to Madrid and less than Suarez to Barcelona

    Any 1st team players due to play for the U21's tonight?

    I'm not suprised Liverpool fans are a bit miffed, it's another case of Rodgers and the committee failing to land a target. Valdes is exactly what they need, a high quality, experienced goal keeper.

    And we have taken him on board for the bench ;)

    Yeah, wearing all his medals around his neck, clanging together, for intimidation.

    It really wouldn't be that big a disaster for United if De Gea left for a big wedge of a transfer fee anyway tbh.

    Anything under 40m sterling would be a disappointment tbh

    We would find it very difficult to replace him with a keeper of similar quality, imo.

    I do think we could see him go in the summer.
    Valdes --> United
    De Gea --> Madrid
    Bale --> United
    Reus --> Madrid

    Real would make a profit on the lot and United a hefty loss. Thats my prediction, anyway.

    I dunno about that. I think Valdes is not a patch on de Gea.
    And only for de Gea this season we would be down around the same position as Liverpool in the league.

    Valdes is already a keeper of similar quality. De Gea is in a rich vein of form and has more upside, but he's not a level above Valdes on career to date IMO.

    If Valdes were to become the new United #1 you would still have one of the top 3 GKs in the EPL easily. You don't have a GK who can still improve a lot, but most people would - or at least should - be reasonably happy with an extension of the current situation.

    IDK on the Bale/Reus situation and don't think it's very relevant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,140 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

    Really don't see the worry. Valdes has had a tremendous career, and still in goalkeeping terms has a decent amount of years left to perform at the highest level.

    But he had a pretty significant injury, and has been without football for some time. With most of the top clubs in Europe well stocked with first team goalkeepers, it's not a bad move for him to go to a big club as a number 2 and see if he can work his way back.

    As much as I absolutely love DDG and the character he showed turning himself into one of the worlds best, if his form went to the dogs I'd be happy we have a strong number 2 to step in.

    And if De Gea was usurped by Valdes based on form, then that means getting an even stronger performer. As unlikely as this is, it's a plus for the team.

    I really don't see it as some form of like, pathway for DDG to leave. We got an utterly top class keeper on a free, probably on decent wages, and what it actually paves way for, is Lindegaard to leave. Which is something he has been asking for, for nearly 18 months now.

    Making mountains out of molehills I feel.

    I predict no more than two of those transfers will happen. Care to have a wager on it ;) ?

    Assuming not playing for a year hasn't effected him. Which it might have.

    I agree with most of what you said but it's contingent on Valdes being as good as he was. And he might not be.
