I can't recommend the Imperial War Museum enough. I'm not a massive museum goer, but it's practically across the river from Old Trafford and was superb. I think it was free in, too.

does it really matter if ge gea signed a new 5 year contract?

when you see the likes of Bony who just signed a new 5 year contract with Swansea only 7 weeks ago and now about to join city, or suarez who only signed a contract with Liverpool and moved to barca...

Contracts mean absolutely nothing, only it puts the club in a better position when selling a player

    Contracts mean money, when selling.

    DDG w/ 1 year contract = €20m - €30m

    DDG w/5 year contract = €60m - €80m

Worth getting him tied down for that alone.

No keeper is going for that much money. Not even Neuer.

80 million euro? Are you insane?

So how much is Degea worth currently, I'd think you'd need to break the world record at least for him. 40m pounds?

The figures were just an example. Anyway, figures are mad at the moment, DDG at €80, was also my highest estimation.

    Also

    Reus... CM

Buffon cost £32m in 2001. Considering the cost of transfers has probably doubled since then, I don't think he's too far off!

80m wouldn't be crazy at all, given the fees Bale, Suarez et al go for, as well as Herrera, Bony, etc, and given his age, profile and the fact we don't want or need to sell him.

But then, this goes back to the fact we need to realise fees have inflated to a crazy degree. 80m for one of the top goalkeepers in the world would be bang on imo, relative to other transfer fees

yea but 80m for a goalkeeper not a hope of it ever happening.

If he does go, id say the fee would be in the region of 30-35m and that would be absolute tops

Speaking of nuts fees, the Bale to United story has popped up again this morning- €150 million:eek:

However,Miguel Delaney was on newstalk last night saying Strootman is the main target along with a CB.Woodward is staying very quiet after the very public declarations in the Summer,LVG prefers this way and wasn't happy the club didn't get all their targets then due to Woodward going public about United's transfer plans.

if bale does come to united, I think it will be a part exchange with de gea (hope im wrong)

I don't know if it's just me, but I thought the Valdes signing was to have a relatively classy no.2 goalkeeper, with Lindegaard currently looking to move for first team football.

Valdes is in his twilight, he's come from an outragously succesfull period for Barcalona. Why not play no.2 in a club on the up, a club with a serious reputation, and is probably looked on fondly by Van Gaal as a possible mentor/competition for De Gea.

I saw that signing and my first reaction was Lindegaard can get his move now, not that De Gea was moving. Spose goes to show how much attention no.2's get paid.

He was quoted three times in the last two months saying he is looking to move from the club in January for first team football.

That would be true if he didn't have 18 months on his contract, if he says he isn't signing a new one then we will need to sell him this summer.

Money is something we have a lot of, the only way I'd let a player like him leave is if it's used as leverage to sign another player we need

He's easily worth £50 - 60 million in this market, paid almost £20 million for him and he's grown into one of the top 3 keepers in the world imo at the age of 24

yes I agree they are difficult to do but sometimes they happen... when all parties agree and are happy.

for example seeing as we are talking about our goalkeeper de gea, when buffon moved to Juve, Bachini moved to parma in part exchange as part of the deal

actually forgot, one of the biggest transfers of all time, Ibrahimovic to barca, 69m, etoo went to inter in part exchange and was valued at 20m. I think they also offered Hleb but he refused to move and barca had to pay the difference

just remembered there as well one of our very own transfers this season, Marcos rojo moved to united, Nani went to sporting as part of the deal..

and yet they are probably still less than 1% of transfers. anyway the nani thing was different, it was a loan and back to his old club.

yea but they do happen, that was my point, and nani was only sent back and united still pay 100% of his wages to give sporting a better deal as they didn't own rojo 100% outright

Regardless, they're very rare, a straight forward transfer these days is complicated enough without having to satisfy another player/agents/team going the other way.

De Gea should do the sound thing and sign a contract with us if he wants to leave grand we'll get foolish money for him. Losing him for relatively cheap would crush me!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,828 ✭✭✭gosplan

I think the Valdes idea is very clear.

If you're going to have a young, relatively inexperienced (but admittedly excellent) first choice keeper, then you're better having an old head as backup.

Right now DDG looks unstoppable but if he goes through a rough patch or gets injured and backup needs to come in, it's far better that it's Valdes.

If for example Lindegard had to come on for a string of crucial matches that might decide CL qualification, and with a perhaps suspect defence in front of him, would you trust him to be able to deliver back to back performances, or of he did mess up, to be able to put that behind him before the next crucial match pops up.

    Good management IMO.

I'm aware of the rojo thing, it was a stroke that was pulled and benfica should have been on the hook for a portion of the value of the nani deal to the part owners of rojo

Pffftttt, Big Dave is goin nowhere, least of all to Real.
