I have no idea either which was the last non festive game but from next season there will be some Friday night Premier League games on television for the first time.

Who is melting down by the way? I must be missing those posts.

Yesterday I wasn't worried about De Gea leaving at all, today we signed a keeper who I believe wouldn't want to warm a bench, so I am worried.

The "I look in the thread and De Gea is leaving?!" nonsense is just that. There IS a reason to be worried, hopefully it turns out that De Gea wants to stay forever, and Valdes just loved the Spanish lads so much that he wants to stay and join them, ****, I know I would. I just doubt it.

United played Chelsea away in 2002 on a Friday to avoid clashing with some event.Only one I can think of.

Edit:Notting Hill Carnival was on.it attracts around 1 million visitors to the area over 3 days:eek:.

I'd love some Friday night fixtures. It's the one day that the Premier League avoids. Much rather a Friday night compared to a Monday.

I.M.O. it is not nonsense Mikey. When I came into the thread earlier there were what I'd call O.T.T. reactions to the Valdes news prominent throughout. Being worried is one thing, wondering what the odds are on who DDG's next club will be are another thing.

I see this deal as a bit of a no-brainer for both parties. Valdes has been on the shelf with a serious injury for a while now. What he needs at this moment is a notable club to give him a 'shop window', somewhere he can show that he has recovered 100% and still can compete at the top level, and be of value to a club for some years to come. Manchester United is perfect for him in that regard. With DDG currently playing a blinder between the sticks, there is minimal pressure on Valdes at the moment to play more than he needs to while he works on his recovery.

From United's point of view: It was heavily reported late in the Summer window that Lindegaard looked to leave. Victor Valdes is an established keeper, known to be world class, but currently a free agent looking for a way back into the game. Yes I'm sure he could get first team football in various other parts of Europe, but could he currently get the number 1 slot at a top club? Definitely not. For whatever his wages cost, United have rightfully jumped at the chance to sign Victor Valdes who as I have surmised above is looking for a notable club and/or a shop window.

From the point of view of the fans; We now have an absolute powerhouse of a G.K. team (if Valdes recovers 100%), if one fails the other can slot right in. They are the cream of Spanish goalkeeping talent and they're all ours.

I don't think Valdes is looking to warm a bench for the rest of his career, but at this transitional time of his career maybe he is quite happy to stop over at a club like Man United while he tries to regain peak form and sees what his next move is. I think it is an absolute golden ticket for Valdes and don't look at it at all as him 'settling on warming a bench', or doing an Anderson as we know it.

On the off-chance that I'm wrong and 32 year old (33 next week) crocked Victor Valdes is in fact being brought in to replace the 24 year old David DeGea who'll depart this Summer, then I didn't see that coming and may God help us all.

We need a CB and RB urgently, but signing DDG to a new improved contract would be the best bit of business the club could do in this window.

What would you value degea at currently? I really hope we tie him down but I think he could very well be used as a bargaining tool for Madrid if I am honest

I'd say valdes will be happy to play back up keeper.
I remember his press conference last March/April, he said he was leaving barca because the pressure took it's toll on him, said something like 'one year at barca is equal to 3 at any other club'.
He was all set to sign for Monaco and got injured then they backtracked on signing him. That would have been ideal, big club, big money yet out of the limelight. Can't imagine he had too many offers in Europe recently and sub keeper at utd pays well I'd imagine.

I'd say he had bucket loads......just none that would meet his wage demands.

This sort of stuff is why everyone should just utterly ignore "gossip" till the end of the window. At this stage, it has to just be someone having an utter laugh....

*yesterday* we signed a 32 year old keeper who *was* injured and without a club but whom has been training at United and has proven his fitness in both training and during medical tests.

I invented nothing. If you had been reading the posts you would realise I do not for one second believe Valdes was signed because De Gea is about to leave.

does it really matter if ge gea signed a new 5 year contract?

when you see the likes of Bony who just signed a new 5 year contract with Swansea only 7 weeks ago and now about to join city, or suarez who only signed a contract with Liverpool and moved to barca...

Contracts mean absolutely nothing, only it puts the club in a better position when selling a player

Going to the Southampton game on sunday lads. Will be in Manchester early. Any recommendations on good spots to hit early in the day leading up to game time? Cheers
