Liverpool would have him in a heartbeat. With Stevie slip sliding away at the end of the season, they'll have no 'star' players next year.

A lot of teams would. We took Teddy Sheringham in a very different era at a similar age... He did wonders for us

    oh Teddy Teddy!

If Falcao doesn't work, maybe we can let him go, offload Rooney and RVP, and enter the race for Messi :pac:

I'm getting a feeling there is a sudden panic that Falcao isn't going to work?
The problem is he's getting **** all service IMO and when he has he's either scored or assisted, and he's only coming back to full fitness.

wait and see falcao bang in a hat trick this sunday v Southampton.. no service = no goals. service = lots of goals :)

Falcao with a team of non-backup players will be epic.

Ah, no, it was tongue in cheek. I'm still firmly in the "40m for Falcao is too good to turn down" camp, relative to the prices we've paid for other players in recent times.
I agree 100% with the service line. For all people focus on midfield and defense, I'd give anything to get the likes of Bale in, and have Bale and DiMaria flanking Falcao up front.

I do think RVP should be moved on (plenty of teams would want him, and could see him moving to a Juventus or the likes where he could still tear up smaller teams in a weaker league. I've never made a secret of the fact I would happily see Rooney replaced, and if he's not going to be up front, then he shouldn't be on the field.

This window though, it's about defence; I love Rafael, but at the very least we need a RB who can compete for the first team on a regular basis. Have zero faith in Smalling and Evans, and it's seriously wained for Jones, so need a CB in too. Those two, I think, are vital if LVG is serious about a title push. We'll get top 4 without them, but not get near the top. Midfielder would be nice bonus.

Summer then, we could go for a top attacker/assister to help whoever winds up front, top midfielder to assist as well, and possibly a highly rated 19-21 year old striker to replace RVP and step up from Wilson.

If his target is to "dominate for 90 minutes" you can.

His target is top 4, which he is achieving right now. While on a good unbeaten run.

I'm very much in the opposite camp, especially if he cannot demonstrate without a doubt that he is worth it. We have plenty of striking options, we do not need to take a €40m punt on a player who may or may not regain his past form.

There seems to be this perception that we cannot pass on Falcao because he is world class and always will be, but football is littered with examples of once world class strikers who never again reached their former peak. Andriy Shevchenko anybody? Torres? Falcao may have been unplayable once, he may be unplayable again in the future but it can't be assumed, he needs to actually do it.

Unless he can demonstrate that he is worth it then €40m is indeed good enough to turn down, and thus far he hasn't shown it, whatever the excuses made for him.

I don't think it's €40m, it's something like £45m which is a lot more and definitely not worth it imo, especially at his age. And then there's the incredible wages. I can think of much better ways to spend that money.

I'd happily see falcao go now if he was to be replaced with a striker who offers something different. Rvp is a finisher(like falcao), rooney drops deep, wilson isn't cutting it atm. United could do with a big strong option that can receive the ball with his back to goal and hold onto it. Imo bony would be a great option

Shaw will be fit for weekend according to reports. Rojo, Blind and Fellaini nearly ready too.

Falcao's general play is a good bit ahead of RVP, he works very hard to make something out of the nothing he gets as far as service goes.

I think having Di Maria back will bring a cutting edge back to the team, his directness is something we missed. Hint of Arsenal about the way we've been playing the last month or so, a lot of possession but fk all done with it really.

Not sure which "star" player gets the boot when Di Maria is fully fit though.

Getting rid of Falcao is alright, as long as theirs an adequate replacement lined up. If we start next season with no Falcao, and older, slower RVP and James Wilson, I'll be disappointed. (I know Rooney can play there, but it's hard to really know his plays for him)

Out of interest (this a genuine post and not being snarky), would people still want another top level striker coming in if we let Falcao go? And if so, who would be your option?

The Express are running with Benzema wanting a move and Real wanting Falcao.Would Benzema be a good fit at United? Fergie was a fan but Benzema chose Madrid.
The Express are going with Benzema to Liverpool but where are they going to get £40 million plus wages?

Lacazette would be a fine addition, young, quick and clinical

I don't think RVP can compete with Costa and Aguero anymore, we could do with an in form Falcao even if it costs 45 million and let RVP leave

I'd want one. Probably say Cavani. Seriously out of sorts at PSG, despite scoring regularly. Has been injury free. Just had another club fine and suspension for coming back late from Christmas. Looks like hes gone this summer, could probably be acquired now.

Vietto is probably going to be hot property this summer, argueably this window. Young Argentinian striker I believe playing with Villareal. Bags of pace, slick finisher and has a good all round game. Caught him a few times this season, and each time he seemed to collect the ball deep and feed it wide, and make this clever runs into the box for essentially tap ins.

Had a quick google there and seemingly has a 24m buy out clause. If he keeps going the way he is, he will be hot property come the summer.

In saying that, Falcao could go onto score 15 goals in the second half of the season and be worth signing. I'm reserved on him because hes missed half the season with injury, and taken a few games to come back into form.

Maybe as some say, with Di Maria back in the side he might get better service and could justify a permanent deal.

I mentioned them, didn't post the link.If people want to read more it's up to them to go look.
If I just posted Benzema to leave Real & they want Falcao, the first reply would be: "Source?"

I'd let RVP, Falcao and Rooney leave to overseas clubs.

Then get in Bale and Muller plus ?

    Messi and Ronaldo?

Nah, Ronaldo is never going back to United and Messi will die in a Barca shirt.

But Bale is a possibility and LVG gave Muller his first opportunity so there is a relationship there...

I wouldn't like muller at united, cant say I really like him to be honest

If Falcao wasn't signed, and we were going for someone else, I have no idea whom I would like it to be.

I would like a player of Sanchez's ilk. Someone with real pace, and ability to take a man on. It is something we really lack at United.

    indeed. One player. One.
Januzaj if he could remember how to play football has enough pace together with acceleration.

Also, Di Maria plays from deep - a player like Sanchez would be played further forward and stretch the defence, get beyond them for a ball in behind too. Something none of RVP, Rooney or Falcao do to great affect.

Have to say I've been totally underwhelmed with Januzaj. Calls for him being one of Europes top young talents, I felt was totally misjudged at the time and look daft now looking back.

Obviously thats me being harsh reacting to the silly UK media judging a player, but find him totally underwhelming if I'm honest.

Not sure how much he can improve but I really like Saido Berahino. He's at least good enough for Spurs/Pool not sure if he's United quality though.

I agree that Falcao has been lacking service, but, even taking that into consideration, he still doesn't look worth anything close to £45m at this stage. If United don't buy him, I'd prefer to get in a lower profile striker who could be kept happy with playing as back-up. It's going to be hard enough to keep both RVP and Rooney happy once we stop fannying around trying to play them all at the same time. Adding a third high profile striker to that mix would just make the problems worse and would be a waste of money.

Unfortunately I'm starting to suspect that the Glazers are pushing for high profile signings in order to reassure the bond markets about United's strength, so that might lead to Falcao or a similar CF being bought.

With Raf, Valencia and Young all possibly out for the Southampton game (all I can find on Valencia's return date is 'TBA'), what's the option for RB/RWB?
