These issues are what arises from poor squad building, scrambling for a decent defence and shoehorning a great attacking set into poositions where they dont belong. For me rooney belongs up top as a lone strokier told to stay where he is or part of a 2 and given some freedom in that situation. Leave midfield to the midfielders, they need to be more disciplined in the way they approach the game and its management.

I agree we need pace in attack but that can come from quick transition play. Anyway so far I wouldnt have falcao ahead of rooney.

Someone above said Rooney nor Falcao have the pace to turn a defender, they absolutely do. Rooney, for some reason, hasn't done it all that often in recent years but at full belt, he's a lot quicker than you'd think, remember when he burst past 3 players against City?

One of Falcao's biggest strengths is a one on one with a defender. Doesn't work when he gets it 40 yards out with his back to goal however.

There was a ball played in on Sunday that Falcao and the Yeovil defender had a race for, it was quite an eye opener to see that Falcao lost that race very easily. This is a guy we have to pay another €40m for, I'd be hoping for a lot more pace than that.

Wonder will carrick be dropping back into defence when blind is fit if lvg is to continue with the 352

If Blind was fit it is what we would be seeing right now imo, Carrick as the centre piece in the defence.

I still maintain that the current formation is not the one he wants to use though, he has said so himself but given that we are missing players and having players coming back and in and out all the time it seems he feels it is the safest formation to use, I don't like it but I suppose you can't say he is not achieving his targets using it.

I noticed this too, and while reading through the posts was wondering would someone mention it.

I'm hoping its a lack of match fitness and not an overall pace deficiency - time will tell.

If his target is to "dominate for 90 minutes" you can.

I'm not sure, I feel the team could be doing slightly better than just in the top 4 by 3 points.

I reckon if we have a consistently fit 11 we'll see 4-3-3. He clearly doesn't want to use young and val as out and out fb's. If we could keep the likes of Jones shaw and raf fit I think we would play 4 at the back.

it clearly isn't the target though, the target will be to go deep in the FA Cup and get back into the CL.

Step 1 of that is done and dusted, through to the next round, and in fairness, Cambridge won't be up to much either, plus comfortably in 3rd in the league and an automatic spot in the CL.

I'd say a tilt at the title wasn't a target this season, but will be next.

An FA Cup win (or semi final exit vs Chelsea/City, or loss in the final to either) and CL qualification would be a great first season, and they are on target for that

falcao never had lightning pace ever in his career, he was just a deadly in the box. he is not going to start getting fast now.

Then we don't need to spend €40m+ on a fox in the box.

It's his own personal target to be dominating games from start to finish, he's said it numerous times and he's not happy with how that's going.

see in april/may and then decide, too early to judge yet, he could bang in 20 goals between now and then

Play Rooney up front and he will bang in 20 goals, and we already own him...

some papers are running with Gundagon links...for f*ck sake, why on earth would we sign a player with a career threatening injury who has played about 10 games, since May 2013.

either the reports are total rubbish or theres somebody with a screw lose in the club, i assume its the former as opposed to the latter.

Rooney did the same for the goal on the break against Arsenal in the 2-1 win from what I can remember

Remember reading that Rooney had clocked up faster top speeds that Di Maria at some stage this year... so he's deceptively quick, would have thought Di Maria would have burned him for pace... maybe with the ball at his feet.

Some media outlets are just copy/pasting stories from the last 24 months. We're only a few days in so I think we'll have to take a breath really, cause we're going to be linked with every player under the sun this month....

it actually irritates me that clubs that need to sign players, don't seem to try get it done as soon as possible.

You can be certain there will be bids made in the last week or so - why not have these deals pretty much done now? Get whomever you need in as soon as possible.

I wonder if agents are at fault for this, waiting to make deals in the last week to ensure panic from clubs to pay over the odds.

well the simple answer is the selling club doesn't want to sell in January and the player doesn't really push for a move

If Falcao doesn't work, maybe we can let him go, offload Rooney and RVP, and enter the race for Messi :pac:

Strootman's lasted a half without breaking down, some nice touches so far

Falcao should be gone at the end of the season if his current performances are any indication. Maybe Real Madrid would take him seeing as he's so keen on them.

If Rooney was to throw another tantrum I'd let him go too but not to another premiership team. Off to PSG....Colleen would fit right in on the Champs-Elysees.

Who would take RVP at this stage of his career?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,812 ✭✭✭thelad95

If Falcao continues to perform how he is doing now there is no way we should be shelling out ~50million for him, especially with Chicharito to potentially return.

Liverpool would have him in a heartbeat. With Stevie slip sliding away at the end of the season, they'll have no 'star' players next year.
