An excellent reason to cancel that and to order from RicherSounds. Offer finishes today though.

Just wondering if anybody who is looking to buy this already has an Av receiver and speakers or what are they thinking of doing sound wise.
Also what are people projecting onto and what size image are they looking for.
I would love to pick one up but it seems there is a lot to take into consideration or am I just being overly fussy.
    Thanks.

There is a lot to it - and I gave up after spending days looking at Youtube videos.

For starters you need to figure out where do you want to mount it and what are you projecting to. Ideally projector should be behind the sofa and above at the ceiling level to minimize people/kids/pets walking across the beam or knocking over the projector etc.

Then there's the question of connections - where are you going to put the PS3 and set top box etc, near the TV and run long HDMI cable to the projector, or would you bring everything closer to the projector and run a HDMI cable to TV (assuming projection screen/wall is same side as the TV).

I am planning to move the PS3 and amp alone closer to the projector and closer to the micro server & router etc, and project to the wall over the TV. This is my temporary set up. Going forward, I hope to mount the projector on the ceiling, move TV to kitchen, and bring all the AV equipment into a neat stack near the sofa and small / hidden surround speakers around the room.

It would be interesting to see how everyone's build is developing and end result.

I am going to ceiling mount mine and have a FireTV Stick connected and powered by the projector.

Then I will be buying a Bluetooth transmitter which I will plug into the audio output on the projector and wirelessly connect to a decent soundbar.

I then have a 100" retractable screen which I am going to attach the Bluetooth soundbar to so when I pull the screen down the soundbar will come with it.

So only 1 power cable going to the ceiling for the projector and then 1 power cable where the screen is for the soundbar and I am all set...

    That's my plan anyway!

So just received a mail from currys saying that item wasn't in stock... I ordered this on Saturday... shocking customer service... I had rang them on Monday and they had informed me that the item was in stock... knowledge of stock levels seem non existent.

That's a bit sh1t! When u do get it, it'll be worth the wait

I am driving up to Richersounds tomorrow to pick up mine (from Drogheda), just in case if that's of any help to anyone.

That's similar enough to my plan, I'll have a M8 Android box instead of Fire Tv. How you plan on powering the Bluetooth dongle though?

The H181x has a powered USB port so I should hopefully be able to power the Bluetooth transmitter and the FireTV stick from it using a USB hub.

Although I may also be able to Bluetooth directly from the FireTV stick so may not need the transmitter

Currys better better honor my order after all this messing around... they've said that they won't have any stock till 15th January... If I have an order confirmation for the original price.. surely they can't change the price...

I picked up this one from RicherSounds Belfast store. On a quick test, I can fill a 2.7m wall at one end of the living room projecting from about a foot ahead of the sofa at the other end. That is about 4.5 meters away and getting approximately 120" screen (sorry for mixing meters and inches... ). It's bright. Not that loud - quieter than my N54L microserver and nothing compared to the el cheapo electric fire effect heater that I sometimes run. The audio in the projector is kinda crap, but loud. I was surprised how loud it was. Projecting to some type of cream colour wall, it's very bright (with some dim lights one) and very watchable even with main light (5x40w) on. Not sure how it would fair on daytime with blinds open, but that's the not the intended use anyway.

While at RicherSounds, I saw a BenQ mounted on the ceiling and it looks positively tiny - much smaller than a Sky box, where as this one looks a bit bigger. That's the only gripe so far.

Now I have to figure out mount / tripod etc etc.

Optoma UK site has a decent graphic projector distance calculator that gives you an idea about where and the dimensions of the picture given the space you have:

No Amazon have limited time offers like this all the time, sometimes they are a few hours long, sometimes longer. You snooze you lose as they say

    add it to your watchlist

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 863 ✭✭✭boardzz

I think you can set that up through your watchlist, or at least you should be able to

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,470 ✭✭✭positron

You can also do that type of thing with camelcamelcamel browser plugin I think - it lets you define a price or a percentage drop where you want to be notified etc.

This wouldn't be a bad addition to this projector for anyone who's bought one

Setup an external hard drive and XBMC or similar media organiser as well as a wireless mouse and keyboard and you'll be sorted.

    I have to second camelcamelcamel.co.uk
You just pop in the url for the item you want to watch. Then just put in a price you wish to pay and an email address. It will then send you an email notification when it drops below the price you have entered.

Still working out how to provide source to the projector, but it just occurred to me that all I need is just single HDMI lead going to the projector, and use an amplifier with HDMI passthru to act as the switch between all kinds of sources, and of course for audio.

I am going to update my decade old amp to something that will do HDMI passthru.

Anyone who got the Optoma 141 Projector is the Fan noise a problem?

I got the H181x and the fan seems to be very loud so much so it is very distracting when watching a movie so interested to hear from anyone else?
