Copyright - Lyrics

    Hi,
Was including some rock/pop lyrics in a short story I'm writing but removed them when I read about the strict copyright attached to even a few words etc... Fair enough.
My question is, if I use instead lyrics from old Irish ballads e.g. Wild Rover, Galloping Hogan etc... will I escape the whole copyright thing?
    Cheers,

There is some general discussion on duration of copyright here. You will see more in the 2000 Act.

It is also noteworthy that even if copyright has expired in some works, further copyright can subsist in new compilations (etc.) of various works in which the original copyright may have expired.

Beyond general discussion about copyright, discussion concerning your own legal rights will amount to legal advice, which is not allowed by the forum charter.
