unable to complete update - error code 0x80188308; lumia 820

i'm trying to update a lumia 820 that's been sitting in a drawer for the last 6 months. It updated itself twice but on the third update, it downloads, installs, see the gears, restarts, see the blue windows logo and then get an error message with the above code. I'm currently searching for a solution but if anyone has experienced and solved this I'd appreciate their help,

Is wiping the phone an option?

If so, I'd look for the Lumia Software Recovery Tool, that can re-flash the phone to WP8.1, then you can install the latest updates from there.

it is now! nearly installed using the software recovery tool.

for sale - 1 newly minted wp8.1 cyan lumia 820!;)

Once restored, the phone should be at 8.1. And if you update it, it should go straight to 8.1.1 with Denim

updated with no issues. but didn't get denim yet..i also updated 2 520's and no denim for them yet either.
