My local busy and popular convenience store is selling alcohol to minors. In the queue a kid (the only way he could be described) bought two 8 packs of Bavaria no questions asked and straight after him, this time a girl, bought a naggin of Vodka. No ID, no nuthin. I reckon she was no more than 16 and the other kid looked about 14.

This is just across the road from a garda station too.

I said to one of the two behind the till that they were minors and they shrugged it off.

This was so blatant it's obvious policy for the night.

I will be reporting it to the garda station tomorrow morning and I think others should do the same when they see this. Don't get me wrong i'm not a spoil sport and if it was one off I wouldn't but this was ridiculous. Allowing it in front of a queue of adults too probably shows they think most would not complain.

Would you say anything, do anything or just leave it be?

It would be even more outrageous if they were selling 'liquor' to minors

It's the new policy to combat an aging population.

They could be Garda, because it's well known that as you get older the Gardai look younger.
How old are you Kermit? And how do you like being green?

Why not report it now if there's a Garda Station across the road?
    Bird has flown by tomorrow..

I wonder how many adults are buying alcohol to be consumed by minors.
You just reminded me that my son needs some cans for a party he is going to tonight.

Yeah, I'd report it. Its not the kids fault. Of course kids are going to try and buy booze.

It's the shopkeepers responsibility to make sure they're not selling to kids. If they're not able to do that they shouldn't be selling it.

Reporting it tomorrow is pointless. The Guards can probably catch them easy this evening as there will be plenty buying booze. Any other day is going to be a bit harder.

Maybe the kids were known to the cashier (and they know they're over 18). If that's the case then there's nothing for anybody to worry about.
Maybe the owner of the shop doesn't know that kids are being served alcohol and wouldn't want to risk his license.

Anyway. No point in saying "maybe this or that". Reporting it to the Guards means it's their problem and they can sort it out.

Why post here instead of .....

    A. going into the shop and calling them out on it

(Edit, I see you mentioned to the shop.)

    B. going to the Garda and reporting it ( and getting a receipt or pulse number for the record!) NOW.

But realistically, the mayhem tonight is a given. A certain shop stopping the sale of alcohol is not going to make a difference.

Unless the sale to minors and others is all over the city.

Bet the emergency services are not pleased.

I used to buy my drink in a shop on Talbot street when I was a teenager. Your man used to go to the window and look up and down the street for coppers before he served me!:D

Wow that's serious. I was going to report it but in the end couldn't really be arsed. I reported the post instead and the Mods will sort it :D

    A. I did.

    B. It'll do tomorrow.

    C. Though you didn't ask i'm 25 for whoever did ask not that it should matter. Seems easier to get booze direct now than 8 years a go.

You are making a lot of assumptions to be honest. I am 20 but depending on the day I could pass for younger (say 16) and so could a few of my friends. I'd go to some offies where they know me and they don't ask for ID anymore. Maybe that's the case here?

Leaving that aside, you come across as an awful spoil sport and a busy body. Oh no, some kids are getting drink wah wah wah.

Those kids are going to get drink one way or another, cashiers and others could lose their jobs if complaints are made. I dunno I just don't think its worth the trouble for anybody.

It's easier for u18s to get booze direct than it was when you were 17?

Nooooooooo. I see your point but these were children. Simple as. I could pass for 19 on a given day and I am sincere when I say these were children. They were not even asked for ID.

No I don't think so. We have a serious problem with under age drinking in this country and your attitude is partly to blame for that because you think it is ok for an Off License to be feckless with the laws.

But then by and large the people who say "let them be" won't have to deal the consequences. That will be the emergency services and the gardaí.

I always thought the fun part of underage drinking was actually trying to obtain the booze myself.
