Well, shít. An Arsenal win is the worst possible result.

Fúcking Liverpool, 1-0 up at home and they still can't get a decent result.

    Makes yesterday's draw tolerable now.
    Should be ok for third.

That's a great result in the context of yesterday, with Newcastle dipping hopefully we can get 3 on Friday

Hopefully Stoke can get something out of tomorrow's match.

If these Bale rumours prove to be right, where would he fit in? having him on the left means moving ADM into the middle so I'd see that, especially if we persist with playing someone behind 2 strikers, leaving us very vulnerable in the middle.
I rate Bale very highly, but having ADM means we don't 'really' need him. If you could have one on each side, then that'd be a different matter.
If we do sign him, it'll probably mean the end of Mata and signing Falcao.

Signing bale would have more repercussions for mata and probably Rvp if falcao stays , bake is much more of an attacker and a scorer of goals compared to do dimaria

    Happy with that.

    Nothing lost.

Arsenal were awful in first half. Would be happy with 7 points from next 3 games, although 9 would be super, before the tricky cup tie.

    Poor Dave had
    Evra
Ferdinand - who can't get into the QPR team
Vidic - Who's having a stinker in Italy
Kagawa - Having a stinker in Germany
    Welbeck - (Still not scoring)
    all starters in his team.

He didn't have Falcao - One of the finest strikers in the world
Di Maria - MOM in CHamps league final, and drove Argentina to world cup final
Shaw - Voted in the PFA team of the year last season

Di Maria and Shaw didn't start yesterday, and haven't started very many games at all. Everyone bar Falcao was a Moyes player too so it's not like LVG had a vastly superior squad.
Saying that, we still should have put villa to the sword with ease.

The Mirror claim United are ready to activate the buy out clause in January for Koke at £48 million.

He's too slow, we need pacey wingers tbh

Still annoyed after Saturday. Villa were hardly in the game and although Bentake took his goal well it was not that difficult to defend against. Too much space was afforded to him. Evans again showing his lack of physical presence.

With 35 minutes to go, United were attacking and going for the jugular and then all of a sudden the impetus went with the Wilson substitution. Why I don't know but the game was there for the taking.

I hope against Newcastle normal service resumes. Delighted for Falcao, he is a brilliant player and looked so sharp on Saturday. Needs to start more games.

Thing is though - what we saw Saturday was normal service - although we got results you could hardly say it was scintillating. We got lucky in a lot of games. I don't think the players understand this system and we don't play with enough pace when we break. I think our manager gaffed big time with the subs he made - in particular moving Young to the right to accommodate Di Maria. He can point to injuries etc - but this side looks a bit lost of times. We will do well to stay unbeaten in the next 3 games.

The issue I feel is that LVG's game relies on quality from the wings and that is just not happening with Valencia and Young. I know they have provided one each in the last two games but on Saturday I lost count how many overhits Young had in good areas. I had hoped Val's moment against 'pool last week would provide some inspiration but nope, back to hitting balls with the head down and as hard as possible.

The whole flow of the game stops when Young gets possesion, he insists on taking two touches every time and by then the defenders are on top of him. The turning back onto his right foot is annoying too. Quality wingers are needed.

Di Maria hits quality balls at least 80% of the time, he needs Falcao playing tbh. It remains to be seen whether VG sees his future as an attacking MF or a winger. The defense is a shambles, gifting teams chances every game.

FYP - He scares me everytime he's on the ball. Just want my Rafael-Jones-Rojo-Shaw formation back.

All I want for Christmas is for Shaw, Rafael and Herrera to be match fit

That's very harsh on young crimson king.

I would agree with this as when LVG was with the Netherlands, we saw how influential his wingers were especially Robben and even Depay. Di Maria will definetely benefit us and I think Young could maybe do a job for us but i'm still not convinced about Valencia. I would love to see Luke Shaw come back for us as he definitely has that pace. If LVG can just stick his mind with putting 4 at the back and have a diamond formation, we will start winning games deservingly and not just win by the skin of our teeth with de gea saving us time and time again

Just annoyed me on Saturday. Probably going OTT on him, but I just feel he was exposed too much as a poor crosser. Maybe the pressure of playing in front of his old fans got to him.

I thought Young was awful when he switched to the right wing. Our momentum stopped every time he got on the ball there imo.

I don't see how you can fit Falcao, RVP, Rooney and Mata into a starting 11 without having the side completely unbalanced.

If were going two up front then Rooney or Mata should be benched. Putting Rooney back in cm and leaving Herrera on the bench makes absolutely no sense. The same as leaving Carrick cb and starting Fletcher cm.

Evans scares you when on the ball but Jones is ok? Evans is far better on the ball than Jones.

Rooney's Hollywood cross field balls from left to right and vice versa are really starting to irk me, he has been doing it a lot in recent seasons but it's becoming more frequent and adds very little to our attack

Getting it out wide should be secondary when we are attacking, when nothing else is on and we want to chance our arm with delivery from Valencia and Young. But we do it almost every single time and almost always lose the ball and leave ourselves open to be torn apart on the counter with our awful defending.

The penetration isn't there. Chelsea have it, City have it, we have a wealth of world class attackers on their day but it just isn't happening. We could get top 4 playing the way we are now all season because of how bad the competition is too but I'd like to see some attractive fluid football consistently before the season is done.

Simple answer is to drop Mata.

IMO, this season for sure - albeit Jones did make a silly mistake against Villa with a poor pass but overall I feel more comfortable with Jones playing.

Most of Jones' appearances were when he was fully fit at the start of the season. Evans got a preseason injury and another one recently and has been rushed back this time anyway. I would hope that Evans has the more scope to improve with time though Jones was impressive at the start of the season. Good to have them both back and they'd be a good 2 at the back if Rafael and Rojo/Shaw/Blind could get back soon to shore up the full back positions.

I don't think the players suit this system, especially our forwards. I think you need a lot of pace and stamina in your front three to cover the ground when you play with these narrow midfield formations. Neither Mata nor RVP have have that.

If we have to play a narrow formation maybe a front three of:
    Rooney
    Falcao Di Maria
...would be better. Rooney doesn't have the pace but he has a great work-rate so he can always make himself available for a pass while also getting through the defensive work. Di Maria has bags of pace. It's hard to know where Falcao is at at this stage, but at least he has more pace than RVP.

I would prefer to see Di Maria played in a deeper role where he has a chance to get on the ball and influence the game more by taking the ball past players and picking out clever passes. I think his talents are wasted when he is played too far up the pitch or too wide.
