Another one of these what bike threads sorry!

But any thoughts on a race bike for about 2,500 to 3,000 grand, generally looking at the Ultegra level. I've looked at several Lapierres which look like good value, also a Giant TCR (seems good value), a Specialized Tarmac Comp.

Swaying towards a Lapierre but haven't owned one in a few years so I'm not sure what they are like now...

    Thanks!

I have an alu Canyon as my race bike and it's great. Cheap enough to replace the frame if it gets busted in a crash.

3k gets you <7kg, carbon wheels and dura ace, but there's nothing wrong with the €1600 Ultegra version.

The Canyons look like an interesting option. My LBS might not be pleased though...

Here you go - Ultegra Di2, currently 10% off which reduces it to just under £2,000 or approx €2,500 if one of the sizes they have in stock suits

Is it cyclesuperstore ? They do like to push the Lapierre

Forget about your LBS if looking for very good value. Keep an eye out for cannondale evo's in the January online sales.

No, it's not the superstore though they did sell me one ten years ago.

    Sorta owe the LBS one!

I've got one of those Excalibur's in Large - usually ride 58cm and don't really notice any difference with that size. They have a sizing chart linked from the page I provided a link from if you want to check the main dimensions

Have had 4 different Ridleys and they have long top tubes, generally go a size down from your usual to get an ideal fit.
Have to say for buying a bike unless you know your exact sizing the LBS is by far the best option.
Saving a couple of hundred euro looks very stupid if you end up with a bike that doesn't fit .....

I got a Specialized Tarmac SL4 Pro this year and absolutely love it, was surprised at the huge difference between that and my old bike (Ribble Sportive). Weight is the same, but the Tarmac is much more responsive and comfortable. My choice was limited by my size, so can't comment on other manufacturers as didn't test ride other bikes.

You get more bang for your buck with brands like Canyon and if racing, maybe a cheaper frame might be worth considering. Specialized do have a great warranty policy. Have heard that the new Cannondales are not great quality, even the top end models.

One of the Aircodes and the Xelius 400

Canyons seem to offer a lot for the money though.

I have the Xelius 400. It is a great bike. Had trouble with the ultegra wheels but it was sorted without any fuss. I bought it in Harry's.

Is it light? How does it move? Do you race with it?

I've read about those Mavics cracking a lot.... the wheels on the Canyons seem to be double the value of what most brands put on as standard.

Just do some club races. It is a light bike.
Not mavic wheels that give trouble. Shimano.
I changed the ultegra wheels to ksyrium elites. The ultegra wheels rolled really well just bearing trouble.
