Has anyone ever been in it and what were their experiences?

It featured briefly on Vogue Williams show the other night and was pretty disappointing to be honest.

Only seen pictures of it inside, pretty impressive.
It's been vandalised and had fires started in it at the moment though, not fit for habitation. There was plans renovation during the boom but came to nothing.
Shame to see it almost derelict.

Its not derelict. There's a visitor centre there! It's got a great tour!

NAh it was bought by a local family and they've renovated it. Some parts of the house are still closed to the public and always will be. But they do tours (inside and outside). Was down there during the year. They've got great guides. Halloween is sposed to be mental! And I think they were doing parties and stuff up until lately

The visitor centre has been there for 2 or 3 years.

    Hi,

I was there many years ago. There was 8 of us in a group all having a weekend away. We happened to be driving past Loftus hall (We didn't know what it was at the time). We decided to knock on the door and to see what would happen as it was such an impressive house. This lady answered and asked us did we want to come in and have a look around.

To be honest from the minute we walked in the house we wanted to get out. We had never heard of the place or its name. Such a horrible feeling, my back was crawling. I was telling my partner I need to leave. I can say hand on heart I didn't know why I had such dread but it was there and we all felt it. There were news papers lying on tables that were 15 years old. Totally creeped out. She was telling us she had guests upstairs but there was no way I believed that.

What we could see was a fabulous place, the stair case, out of this world. She started telling us history of children dying there and being buried out the back.

We left but to this day I know I didn't imagine the feeling in that house. We returned to our hotel and told the bar man, he was telling us there were no people in that house and no one goes up to it as it was widely known as haunted.

I genuinely don't know what I experienced but I do believe there is something in there. Never felt that way about any place I had seen before or since.

    Breny.

My parents lived up the road from it. Used to have a right few pints in it my brother in law walked home on his own one night after a dose of pints and ended up running home clearing the gate and sitting on the bed saying the ghosts the ghosts are chasing me. He really was In the horrors. If you really want to get spooked go there on a foggy night. The fog settles around waist level and above that you can see for miles.

I didn't realise you could actually do a tour of it. From that rubbish 'documentary' the other night, I'd honestly be more scared of the place falling down around me than any ghosts. It was in rack and ruin.

I have never been it, but apparently it's quite good. Before it reopened again in the last few years, my folks and brother went over one day. That old lady Breeny mentioned gave them the tour. They said it was utterly bizarre and really creepy and that she was full of gruesome stories. She was also talking about her 'guests' as they looked around thinking 'this place is barely habitable'. They bought a drink in her 'bar' after to support her which had gone off about 3 years before. But I suppose she was old and only doing her best to make a few shillings.

I saw the thread title and thought the OP was talking about Maynooth.
I've been in it and it's a nice place to sit an exam in the summer but it sucks in winter (I have nothing to actually contribute so I'm going to keep thinking this is Maynooth)
