I test drove an R Design today. Amazing car! What are people's views on rebel blue? I absolutely love it but others are a bit wary....even the dealer.

Brilliant colour in my opinion and so much different than the standard black or grey cars all over the road. Am I insane?

If you like it, go for it. It's your car after all and you you're buying for yourself... It will probably make it a bit harder to shift later on though.

Personally - and I think this of all sporty kits - that it depends on the power of the car. If it's in a D2; R-design and a loud brash colour looks ridiculous. It's all shout and no shove. Conversely, and on the other end of the spectrum, a polestar should be shouty. Although, I've always preferred a wolf in sheep's clothes.

I seen one on display inside a large shopping centre last week, must say i was very impressed, it looked great, that colour is excellent and if i was in the market of a car for that price it would be one i would try out in a test drive and make a decision from there.

Those new engines they have are great. Seriously interested in a Volvo next. Love the look of them.

The dealer was really honest about the colour. In his words, 'Rebel Blue is a very personal choice. We've only sold 2 or 3 in the last year. It's a case where the buyer loves it or hates it'.

He also said if I was to be trading it in 2/3 years, realistically I'd lose around €1300 more than any other colour (€300 as that's how much Rebel Blue costs and €1000 with standard depreciation). He suggested Ice White.

As my fiance said, Ice White is very stylish and cool but Rebel Blue is very me.....a bit left field.

Not a fan of white myself in any car. Again, **** it, it's your car. Go for what you want.

There's a Rebel Blue V40 in the office across the road from us - stunning looking car, so I'd say go for it! Might lose a bit on the trade in, but hell - it's only money.

We supplied a Rebel Blue V60 last year - this is still my desktop background:

No Polestar upgrades showing for the D4 V40 yet :( But 190 with the Geartronic box should be enough for a bit of fun anyway.

Where did you see one on display? In Dublin? I only have online pictures to go by.

They had one briefly in mahon point shopping center cork, Volvo had a few cars there and a rebel blue V40 was one of them. Its long gone from there at this stage i would say.

My housemate has one exactly like that. I really like the colour.

OP if we listened to dealers we'd all be driving different shades of silver cars.

I love the colour, don't see it being a hard sell down the road.

Saw a rebel blue one a few weeks back on the back of a truck from Gannon's Recovery on turvey avenue Donabate with the pedestrian air bag popped and the bonnet up. Just in case ya see that one up for sale! Don't think its that one posted above tho as that's been up a while. Looking at a new one myself..SE spec with a few extras in the new power blue colour and blonde interior..personal preference...with the upgraded alloys and LEDs it nearly looks like an rdesign! prob only stretch to a D2 though.

Three owners on a 131 plate?

It looks more than similar to the one my housemate actually bought at the end of Aug

Personally I like that blue, but at the volvo factory its known as "muppet blue"....

To me, it's the first colour I've seen on a car that actually shows personality. A divided opinion by onlookers on the road does haunt me though. There's a high chance of looking like a d*ck which I actually think is absurd as its a genuinely nice colour. I think it's just probably way out of people's comfort zones.

I'm also test driving an A220 tomorrow but I'm 99.9% set on the V40.

Just test drove an A Class with the AMG body kit. Personally, the interior is streets ahead on the Volvo (not a fan of the tacked on display on the A Class). Exterior? I suppose they're completely different. I felt like a bit of a d*ck in the Mercedes. I know the Volvo is Rebel Blue but it feels luxuriously understated. The blue just adds a bit of pop.

I also have a feeling the price of the A Class will be considerably higher once the dealer specs it up to match the V40 - should find out this afternoon or tomorrow morning.

Think it's the Volvo all the way. Anyone own an A Class that could harp in with a few pointers?

Engine line up in the A Class is frustrating, the most powerful diesel, the 220 CDI is a modest 170bhp and is expensive before you start looking at the options list. You will buy a decent spec Golf GTD or Leon FR both with 185bhp for similar money.

FWIW I saw a V40 in Rebel Blue recently and thought it looked great, really distinctive without being too in-your-face.

By comparison, I saw a new saloon A3 in a nondescript grey on the same trip and thought it was such a waste, great bodyshape in a meh colour.

Went back and received the quote from the Mercedes dealer. €13K more than the Volvo and it still had a lower spec!!!

An easy decision: V40 it is. Heading back to the dealer tomorrow morning.

Drop the business connect package, get sensus connect and you can have the nav activated at the dealer. Costs less to do it that way.

Active cruise control in the driver support pack is epic.

    Congrats.

My one pet hate about Volvo's sat nav is the size of the screen, it's fecking tiny. Not sure if a bigger screen can be speced, probably silly money as well.
