Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Anyone know if the RPA has strategic or local development plans to extent railway infrastructure in the Philipstown, Daingean townlands of Co Offaly?

    Railway orders are usually used instead of cpo for railways.

    The RPA are only involved in light rail, so no, they don't.

    Realistically neither would the NTA or Irish Rail.

    Yeah their name is kinda inaccurate. Light Rail Agency, Luas and Metro Agency or Urban Mass Transit Agency would have been perhaps more accurate. They're not involved in (heavy) rail at all.

    There is proposed legislation to abolish them and transfer their functions to the NRA (of all people!) in the even more inaccurately named Roads Bill 2014 but that's stalled since February - maybe someone realised the NTA would be a more appropriate home.

    Nearest railway line is over 15km away, so I doubt it.

    Irish Rail aren't covered by FOI? NTA - National Transport Authority, right? How about a farmer wanting access across a railway line - more of a CoCo planning permission thing perhaps?

    Yup, the NRA. Its daft. The resulting body (the Transport Infrastructure Service) would have responsibility for national roads mainly outside the M50 (including the M50 itself, obviously) and a local tram network mainly inside the M50. Hardly room for synergies.

    However the legislation to do so has been stalled since February. Not sure why.

    you need a wayleave agreement with Irish Rail/CIE made between your solicitor and their legal department in islandbridge and they are a complete pain in the hole to negotiate with and the agreements are not simple.

    Not likely that CIÉ / Irish Rail will give permission on an active line - unless you fancy forking out €250,000+ for a bridge.
