I'm not a "serious" gamer, my main games pc is over 5 years old.

    CPU : Quad core Q6700
    Motherboard : Penryn 1600 SLI
    Graphics Card: GeForce 9800 GTX
    PSU : 600w

I see a bargains alert for an Sapphire AMD R9 280.

    It's says it's a PCI-E interface, and the Penryn 1600 SLI motherboard says it supports "3 x PCI Express x16 slots (white @ x16 mode, yellow @ x8 mode) ".

    So do you reckon it'll fit/work ?
Or is there anything fundamental that ye can pick up straight off that's incompatible ?

    regards,
    CD

Should work fine, but it'll be bottlenecked by the CPU so you wont see the full benefit of it.

With that machine, just go for a €100 GTX750. Even that will be bottle necked in many games by that old CPU.

    Thanks for the replies.

The current setup runs adequately enough for me to play Crysis 1 & 2.
Just not sure I want to shell out €200 for a graphics card just to play Crysis 3.

But good to know it "should" work.

    cheers,
