Today the plan called for the nursing home special.

I had to come up to Dublin early this morning and didn't finish till late evening.

I'm staying in Stephens Green and headed up by the canal just after 8. The rain was starting to ease off but it looked like the water was already close to breaking the banks at some points along the canal.

Might try and get 7 easy miles in the PP after my meeting tomorrow.

    4 miles @ 9.13

Plan today called for 7/4 am/ pm easy miles. I had hoped to do the 7 in the PP and Yaboya was up for an easy trot. Unfortunately both our plans changed and I ended up doing this along the canal the same route as last night. I've noticed that since Amsterdam my easy pace has been too easy, 8.15 and sometimes 8.30 so today I wanted to hit my prescribed easy pace zone of 7.40-8.00.

Handy enough run at 7.45 pace with a few quicker ones on the way back. Didn't need the hat and gloves as it was warm enough when the wind was at your back.

Got the other 4 in earlier this evening, filthy weather for running. The batteries in my head torch drained faster than my motivation and I ended up shuffling along in near darkness. 9.03 pace.

I've a 6 x 800 session tomorrow and I'm not looking forward to it particularly, as it's probably one of my weakest areas! I see from TJ's log that he ran a few 2.40 splits, I wouldn't run a 2.40 if I was going down hill in a tail wind while been pursued by a Swiss Army knife wielding member of Isis :)

    Total for the day 11

If you had your own private cheerleading troop track side you'd have no bother hitting your splits ;) #machoman

Plan today called for 2m wu/cd with 6 x 800, at 3k pace off two half mins recovery.

Seeing as everyone else around here seems to be blasting their track sessions I thought I rock up to the UGG track at lunch time today and join the fun.

The weather had improved to ****e from awful ****e and I hit the track after doing the two mile warm up around some very sodden trails.

The session was a struggle and I didn't come close to the rep pace of 2.50/55. Felt like a fat reindeer pulling a heavy sledge and although I wasn't doubled over at the end of the reps I perceived that the effort level was high.

While I'm obviously disappointed with the pace I'm happy to have done two decent "speed" sessions this week. I'm also happy that I stuck at it as the head was dropping after the 5th rep and I came close to pulling the plug.

I was in a hurry back to work so only did a .25 warm down.

I'm taking a decent break over Xmas and I'll really work on getting the fitness levels back up.

    Splits:

    2.58
    2.55
    2.59
    3.01
    3.06
    3.00

You're like bloody Moaning Myrtle at the minute  That's a great session in these conditions and the splits are only a few seconds out. The main thing is to keep the effort consistent and let the pace look after itself.

And can you please stop calling yourself large/fat/overweight/obese or derivitives of the same as it's wrecking my head. If you don't like the condition you're in do something about it (other than whinge on boards)

    Tnx Dora (I think),

Can't agree with you on the session though, 16 seconds off on the 5th rep is poor, lets call a spade a spade (or a big snow shovel in my case :) )

I do agree with you on the effort level though and that was part of the feedback I got on the session from Coach.

Weight thing is frustrating but yep it's within my control, did you know there's 282 calories in a snickers, I'll have to stop breaking it onto my porridge when I can't find other seeds and nuts :)

Won't mention it again till I've lost the weight equivalent of a big bag of turnips!!!

Well if you want to call a spade a spade you only hit the slower end of the pace range on one of the reps so either a)that pace is too hot for you or b)the weather was not playing ball or c)you didn't find it as easy as you thought you should so your head got the better of you or d)you're a lazy b*****d. But whatever way you look at the splits you got the session done and on the day you did it as hard as you were able and you'll get the benefit from it.

Do you know how many calories are in one purple snack (before they made it smaller)? 124 Do you know what my record is for no. of purple snacks consumed in one sitting? 12
Weight loss is like running in that the more consistent you are the faster you'll get long term results and reducing portion size is the key IMO. Stick with it. You'll get there :)

Oh ya and it is your log so you are entitled to talk about whatever you like I just think that by always being negative about your weight it doesn't help ;)

Fecking hell Career Move, 12 purple snacks , I'm impressed! Since they made them smaller they have only 100 calories!

Today the plan called for 7 miles easy. I got a massage last night, the first one in a while and I was a bit stiff and sluggish when I started early this morning. It didn't seem to be cold but I did this on a local hilly route and there was a bit of a cold bite in the wind on the exposed sections. First mile was painfully slow and I took a fair while to get into it.

Glad I got it done as I'm taking the kids to a Santa party later

    7 miles @ 8.21

I know. The robbing gits and they're more expensive :(

I don't buy 12 packs anymore although I've never had the same zest for them since that day :D

Trouble is with the small ones you need two! It's counter productive!

Plan today called for 7 miles easy.

I'd hoped to get this done this morning but missus TbL put her foot down and I spent most of the day hanging Icicle lights from the roof. I'd put up the first batch and plugged them in, nothing, nada, not a feckin twinkle twinkle in sight! Checked the second batch and they were toast too, had to go to the local hardware store and buy new ones and start all over again.

Eventually got out just after 9 and ran from the house, nice evening it for it and the lights looked great when I was coming back up the road. :)

Only got 6.25 miles in (very easy) as I was under a curfew.

Going to try and really knuckle down now and get a good consistent few weeks in.

Plan today called for a 13 mile "long run"

MurphD was making a flying visit to the nations culture capital and we were trying to hook up for a geriatric running date. I spent the morning polishing my dentures in anticipation but alas last minute changes meant that it wasn't to be. Next time Murph!

Any way I did 15 mins core work, carrying mrs TbL shopping in from the car before driving into Barna to get the run done. Its an 80/90 mins round trip but ever since last year I hate running with the head torch for more than an hour, and that's the price I gotta pay if I want to run under the city lectric :)

Clipped along nicely over the Quincentenial bridge, through Nuns Island and onto the prom. There was some gale blowing on the prom and I was been buffeted from side to side (which ain't easy done!).

Had to run around a couple of housing estates in Knocknacara to make up the mileage and ended up doing 13.29 miles.

Ran every day this week and finished with 51/52 miles so hopefully it's the start of a more consistent few weeks.

    Splits:

    8.31
    7.48
    7.53
    7.34
    7.45
    7.45
    7.54
    7.57
    8.31
    8.39
    8.30
    8.04
    7.53

Today the plan called for 4 recovery am and 6 easy pm. Was heading down to Bunratty with the clan for 2 days. I knew I was gonna struggle with the pm run but it was taken out of my hands as I forgot my runners!

Decided this morning to get the 6 done, got out into filthy weather with filthy looks from mrs TbL as she wanted to hit the road. (And quite possibly me!) Got 6 in very easy and then proceeded to get stuck in Galway traffic for 90 mins!

Got a swim in the pool with 6 kids ( not all mine) who trashed around like piranhas and probably drove the couple of auld wans using the pool demented :)

The plan today called for a session but with kids Santa and other festive activities I knew this wasn't gonna happen today. Thought I switch to tomorrow's run which was 7 miles easy but by the time I got home I really really didn't want to go out, even though it was dry and mild. Eventually convinced myself to head over to Seanadh Pheistin to do 4 maybe 5 easy miles. I'm like an auld arthritic dog these days at the start of my runs and it takes me a good few miles to warm up. The first two miles were 9 min pace but I picked it up to finish 6 miles in 8.22 average.

I'll try and do the session tomorrow.

After getting some motivational enlightenment from TRRtT I'm going to restrict myself to only the one tube of Fruit Pastilles tonight!

I feel your pain on this one. Nearly canned it after 0.5m this evening as the joints were aching so much. Zipped up and kept going....joints improved more than the pace:)
