Different times

I am very interested in the whole area of No Fap. No Fap is basically a community where people are all trying to abstain from watching porn/masturbating. Abstaining from this in many cases leads to a better quality of life with regard to having more energy and more driven.

My question is however, back before the internet and when people had no access to sexually explicit content, would young males at the time have masturbated as frequently as young males do now?
