Topeak Alien II Multi-Tool ~ opinions?.

    After doing some research I've more or less decided to treat myself to one for Christmas, any opinions on it or any alternative multi tool?.

    Topeak Alien Multi-tool

    Ordinarily I'd avoid Halfords for bike gear, but I work on and service my own motorbike and car & have always found Halfords range of tools to be quality so I'd have confidence buying from them.

    However if anyone knows a local bike shop in Dublin who carries the same tool I'd gladly give them my money first.

    Has anyone used this particular tool, and whats your opinion of it?

    I recently replaced my Topeak hexus which I lost with a more expensive Lezyne tool with more tools on it. Preferred the old one, which was thinner and lighter. I reckon tools that you'll never use on a multi-tool just add weight and costs and make the tool clumsier. Out and about, I tend to use the allen keys, phillips screw driver, and have used the chain breaker and holder once. Haven't used the spoke keys but like that they're there, likewise having a small blade. Rest of the bits I don't need and do need other bigger tools when working on the bike in the house. YMMV.

    I had one of these before, very good tool, has every possible tool you might need. The only negative is that perhaps a simpler and lighter multi tool would do for most situations.

    I have this one and I find its more than adequate..

    It has a chain breaker, tyre levers (with a spoke key built into one of the levers).

    I've had it for a few years and so far, I've only had to use the 5mm Allen key!

    I looked at that one too, but the bigger one would be used.. I carry a Leatherman into work so I'd imagine I could leave the Leatherman at home and carry this one for its screwdrivers and small knife.
