Well Steve's depression and Kylie's addiction problem are two serious enough storylines. Then less serious but still not too jolly are Todd's facial scarring and Tim's illiteracy. For light relief we have Kevin's budding romance and Dev's menage a trois with Julie and Mary. Then for the outright bonkers there is Sean's pursuit of the vicar, and the upcoming nuptials between Beth and Kirk. More than enough going on if you ask me, and a good mix.

well agree to disagree! im not doubting the seriousness of the depression and drugs aspects. i just dont think the soap is in a good place and the storylines are largely forgettable.

She's a graduate. He's a casual labourer with a child and a criminal past. I think if he was blue with red spots her father would have an issue.
    And leanne is?

Wish they would get rid of that Indian family :-( I can't stand watching them, usually just fast forward them.

Either way, if they were martian even, they're still boring and irritating. They add nothing to the show except the daughter.

Don't like the son Zeedan but quite like the others. The mother is not backwards in coming forward and i like that. She says what she wants, sometimes I wish I could do that more often. They're more entertaining than the likes of Maria anyway. Think once they settle into the street they'll grow on people. The Battersbys, Cilla and the Windasses all annoyed the heck out me when they arrived but after a while they grew on me.

if you are using Maria as a barometer of entertainment and likeability you are setting the standards VERY low!! The pigeons are more entertaining than the local bike and she is about as likeable as Phelan! At least Phelan had a bit of cash!!

I loved the Battersbys when they arrived, Cilla was just a prototype of Janice ( Janice when she first arrived that is!) and the Windasses weren't in our faces as much and the structure of their family has vastly altered since their first arrival tbh.

Speaking of Phelan, I wish that Karma Houdini would return briefly to get some form of comeuppance. He obliterated Owen's business and reputation, left the Windass/Armstrong clan financially ruined, leading to their home being repossessed, all but tortured Owen and Gary, and practically raped Anna, and he got away with it. Anything positive coming out of this is unrealistic, but in fairness no more so than have the antics that occur on the magical ant farm that is Coronation Street.

His wife could get pushed to outing all his wrongdoings to the courts, having amassed evidence over the years in case she ever needed leverage over him, and Owen ends up with some manner of financial reparation. Or Owen could run into him, hear one gloat too many about his failing to provide for his family or protect his partner, and lays into him to the point he'll miss Gary and his giant plank of wood. Either could factor into Owen's exit storyline.

Kal has no issues dating an ex-prostitute but goes mental at his daughter dating "arr Garreh"?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,508 ✭✭✭ShazGV

It's understanding to see the older, old fashioned grandparents disapproving but it's so irritating to see that view coming from Kal - though he's already proven himself to be a snob with his disapproval of Zeedan's job.

Although, do they disapprove because he's not Muslim or because he's 'not good enough'? Or both?

I would have thought he disapproved more because Gary is an ex army buddy, (those ties tend to be very strong, especially after serving abroad together), but it was never mentioned.

Kal never gave the impression that he is socially conservative or any way religious, he never prays, he goes out with Leanne, he visits pubs etc etc, in fact very typical for someone with his upbringing as a Muslim born and bred in the UK , so no idea why he is so against it.

Gary is 28, she is about 22 after finishing Uni so she's no child.

I think the biggest issue is they think he will hold her back from reaching her potential.

this is what is wrong with Corrie, when they have a seriously good story they abandon it! It would be a terrible waste not to bring Phelan back

I was half watching the soap awards programme on Monday night, and when I saw Phelan, I just thought they really let that story fizzle out. He was a good character. Maybe they will bring him back in, to get a story going for Owen's departure?
I found last night's episodes a bit boring. I just don't care enough about Garrreh and the various members of Kal's family, to want to watch them, for very long.

Phelan was a fantastic character - it would be great if he came back, if only for a bit. A confrontation between him and pretend hard man Tony would be good.

Only after catching up on last night's episodes. Worst I have seen in a long time. I am strongly thinking of giving up watching Corrie at this point, at least until they get rid of that ridiculous family.

Kal knows too about Gary's ptsd

Gary only recently came out of a relationship with Izzy the mother of his young child

I can see why Gary would be a catch for any young girl :p so any dad would be proud

The way Alya was all heartbroken over Gary who she has only being going out with for a few weeks and known not that long was way ott imo, they aren't Romeo and Juliet and Gary has more chemistry with Zeedan :p

I wish I was writing for the show major changes and cuts would be high :p

Kylie didn't need to get a new phone, you can block certain callers or else change only the sim

It's awful lately. None of the characters have any likeable qualities. There's not one you could feel anything for. They are empty, shallow or just downright horrible.
