Dropping Lucas is understandable. He must be really feeling the pace given his lack of matches and now having played the last 5/6 games in relatively quick succession.

Brendan looks like he's digging his own grave her and trying to be too clever. No strikers? Still no Borini in the squad and Balotelli and Lambert on the bench? This could be a massacre.

The decision to not play a striker is the right one IMO, mario, lambert and borini have done nothing all season, when lambert and mario play we may as well be playing with 10 men, borini has worked hard but he just is'nt good enough.

Mig has been terrible for a long time now and should have been dropped long before today but better late than never i guess.

I think he's trying to outplay Van Gal rather than the match.

Never bring a Mingolet to a Jones fight.

He pulls a Phil, you pull a Brad.

That is all well and good if you have a compedant back up keeper. Jones is a great guy but Mig on one of his worst day is a better keeper. That is coming from someone who can't wait to see the back of Mig. It feels more like a point is being made with the selection.

I really don't know what to think at that line up. Id have started Can if Lucas was going to be dropped. Id have done a lot of things differently really.

Maybe he is going to bring Mingolet off the bench to save a penalty?

    Mind games.

I'm happy enough with the line up. Apart from Jones it's pretty close to what I'd have gone with. Although we have no recognised striker I think we will be fairly attacking.

No striker? This is fcuking mental against any team let alone our biggest rivals in their own back yard.

Yes because all our strikers have been brilliant up until now...

The biggest mistake for me in that lineup is dropping Lucas who has been our best player over the last few games. Cue back 4 to be exposed badly once again.

Sure lets start with no goalie too.

    I miss Robbie Fowler.

I've also no issues with Jones coming in, he cant be worse than Mig.

It worked alright for Spain. There is no point in having a token striker up there.

    We've done the equivalent.

I think Rodgers is Jonesing for a hiding.

Rodgers was spot on in the pre match interview, exactly what i wanted to hear from him.

Rodgers just can't win with any team selection with some fans.

Ha Ha comparing that team to Spain is hilarious.

No problem with Jones coming in, it's overdue if anything.

Curious to see how the attack lines up. Sterling up front with Gerrard in behind could be fruitful.

Andy Gray reckons its a 5-4-1 with Hendo and Moreno at fullback, Johnson more centrally.

I've being itching to see Allen, Henderson, lallana, courtinho and sterling in the same team just a pity its at the expense of a striker. Can't understand the mig being dropped he was turning things around in the last few games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,072 ✭✭✭Tipsy McSwagger

Could be Rodgers final starting Xl

I'm not comparing it to the Spain team I'm just saying that by going with no striker doesn't necessarily mean it's defensive.

Dont understand people saying lucas needs a rest after playing 5/6 games.
If you've ever played football you're at your best after playing a few games in a row

Starting glen Johnson as a centre back needs serious questioning considering there's an 18 million pound centre back sitting in the stands who could play there quite perfectly

Would be worried about Valencia doing a number on Sterling here.
