Dublin telephone numbers

I seem to remember that the Dublin area changed from 6 digit telephone numbers to 7 digit telephone numbers in the late 1980s. When did the Dublin area move from 5 digits to 6? Does anyone know?

based on listings in Thom's, it looks like 6 digit phone numbers started in Dublin city sometime around 1958. There's a mix of 5 and 6 digit numbers in the directory for the year, mostly 5 digit, but a few 6 digit also. Similar pattern in 1962.
