If a can is registered Dec 08 in UK/NI should it get 09 plates down here?

Anyone know the ans? Have a car that was first registered 19th December 2008 in England and was given 08 plates. Friend who had Dec car was given following yr reg when they switched over. Obviously makes difference for resale value.

If it was register in December 08 it will get 08 plates. I can't see how your friend was given a reg for the following year.

the 58 reg UK car could have been actually registered in 09 and thus could get an 09 plate here. You are mistaken that your friends december 08 car got an 09 reg.
