I remember the early ones in our house in the 1980s. Think the first one came out in 1983. They would have about 6 songs on each side of 2 tapes. I used to love the inner sleeves. Loved the cover of now 2 and 3 - an image of a pig and a serious looking nik kershaw stand out in my mind with those covers. I was a young sprog at the time.

1984 - probably the best year for music. I was recently listening on youtube to the uk top 20 from each year going back. I think 90% of the tunes from 84 were epic.

    I'm inclined to agree...

Music was better, some epic films (84 also brought us Police Academy, Gremlins, Beverly Hills Cop and The Terminator for example), and life was just simpler and in my opinion better (none of the PC nonsense, obsession with social media etc)

    Damn I miss the 80s :(

I'm not sure which Now this was from but I must have liked it as it's left a memory. I got a tape recorder of Santa and decided to recorded myself singing this song only to have my Mam & Dad play it back to their party of drunk friends :o

It was on the first ever NOW along with your namesake :)

I've a few of them, I prefer to download the tunes from the recent ablums from iTunes if I only like a few otherwise I buy the album if I like the majority of the hits, like the one out now I really like that one. I've started to use Spotify more now. I've not downloaded a tune from iTunes in ages.

I have a Christmas one with three cds in it. Its very good has most of the Christmas hits I like! :)

I saw an ad for Now That's What I Call Legends Some decent stuff on that!
I'm not really one for buying CDs but I do like to grab the odd one or two for me mammy. She's mad into compilation discs. I bought her the Guardians of the Galaxy OST and she never stops playing it!

We have 3 and 5 in the house those and the first Christmas album are the ones I remember.
I swore I got one of them with my first Walkman, turns out it was this http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hits_Album_9 the Now franchise short lived rival.

I almost have the complete collection. 1-8 weren't released on double CD. I have 9-89 with only one or two missing, which I'll get soon.

1-8 I have on vinyl! I will complete it!

Have every single album in iTunes invluding all the US ones & most of the spin offs. Rarely listen to hem these days and the more recent ones are only for the kids

The only one I ever got was NOW 20.

I might make a playlist to relive to glorious sound of those songs.

Nows and other pop / dance compilations are kind of a specialist subject for me (see signature).

    My top 10.
    01 Now 2
    02 Now 11
    03 Now 3
    04 Now 17
    05 Now 5
    06 Now 68
    07 Now 12
    08 Now 7
    09 Now 44
    10 Now 6

I have 1 - 9 on vinyl, 8 - 89 on CD, a complete run of Now Dances, Now 10th Anniversary, Now Millennium and every single one of the other spin-offs.
Just missing Now 4 on CD.

The house music side 4 of Now 11 was probably the series highpoint.
And the three volumes of Now Dance that they released in 1990.

They work because they had a simple formula on what to include - what did well in the charts at the time [along with a couple of tracks that were just about to come out - potential hits]. They're also great for including single versions / radio edits / 7" mixes - not poxy album versions.

Retrospective compilations will always cherrypick stuff.

The Hits series was also great [run by CBS / WEA / BMG]. The problem with that was the constant re-branding. They still managed to put out 68 volumes between 1984 and 2006.

Other good ones of that era - Telstar Greatest Hits Of, Smash Hits, Brit Awards etc.

Now 17 (1990). It had Primal Scream, Happy Mondays, Depeche Mode, Orbital, D-Mob and House Of Love.
    Also Cliff Richard.
Now 6 (1985) had Siouxsie & The Banshees and Kate Bush, instilling a love for gothic-tinged otherworldliness in my seven-year-old self.

The second half of disc 1 [or side 2 of the vinyl] was deadly - the indie sequence finishing with Faith No More and The Quireboys.
