    Hi there,

My car recently failed the NCT for the same fault as the OP, CV boot:frayed/cut.
Out of curiosity, did you have to pay for the re-test as it is a visual defect?
The mechanic who repaired mine said this can be inspected by simply turning the wheel out and giving a quick check and should not incur a cost.
Just wanted to check before arguing my case in the NCT centre.

I think that because it will have to go up on the ramps that they will charge for a retest.

A "visual" is something they can check in the car park.

Yes its definitely not a visual inspection, needs to go on the ramp

Okay no problem, I was just wondering as it is classed as a visual/aural defect on the nct result sheet from my original test.
Thought I might get away with a free one!!

    Thanks for the input.

Unless things have changed, I had a CV Boot fail a few years ago. A visual check was done in the car park, with me turning the wheels full lock for the inspector the check. Let us know the result OP.

The report sheet from the NCT will state whether there is a charge for the retest or if it is free. I'm pretty sure it's up to the tester who does the initial test whether the retest is visual or not.

Iv never seen one be visual anyway, they couldn't inspect it properly in the carpark. I guess it depends on the laziness factor
