Publicans and 12 pubs of Christmas

It's more the fact - in my experience - that they often surge to the bar, presumably because they're on a time schedule. It's irritating to other punters.

Like I said last year I find myself avoiding pubs they target which must annoy publicans if a lot of regulars decide the same thing.

I work a door in Templebar, early in the evening the groups aren't too bad. But I'm very reluctant to admit groups after about ten at night as they're most too drunk, messy and the potential for an accident or incident isn't a risk worth taking.

Absolutely. When I was on the doors you had a chance around 8pm if the people were respectable and had their sh*t together. However, 13 drunk lads in stupid jumpers stumbling and roaring just weren't getting in. Groups like that cost you business in the long run and they don't give a f*ck about how they behave as they're only in for one drink. I was also lucky to work in venues which generally excluded stag groups although I imagine you're sick of them in Temple Bar.

if there were two pubs near each other, and one of them had a sign up outside saying "No 12 pubs of Christmas", it's a no-brainer which would get my custom.

How dare somebody speak an ill word about my long standing tradition of binge drinking. F'kin dry sh1te!

After battling the Christmas jumper accounts department melee of last Christmas, I think I'll just head out in town between Stephens Day and new years eve instead of pre Christmas.

It's the best week of the year for drinking in Dublin. Everyone is gone home and the people that have been away are home. Superb.

That's part of the problem though. In the past two years that I've done it the people who wouldn't be big drinkers were the messiest at it. I binge drink all year around so it was just another night out. 😂
