I think anyone with even a basic understanding of how internet/comms work these days wasn't in the least bit surprised to hear that the NSA etc have been spying on us for years.

I wasnt referring to people in the know about how the internet works. And i would venture a guess that those "in the know" knew it was possible but not that it was being done. Unless you knew the Americans were bugging Angela Merkel etc before it was exposed?

That would seem to fit in some ways. As in your example of something that might once have been considered a conspiracy - but then turned out was true - the true devotee of conspiracy theory will point to that and say "See - no one believed that at the time - so why not believe this now - ".

I used to think all the people who believed in these crazy conspiracy's were just a little bit mad.

Then I watched the Zeitgest movies on netflicks and it all just seemed very plausible to me... maybe I'm going mad myself.

Has anyone else seen these movies?

I can put up with the conspiracy nuts - its the anti-vaccine people I can't stand - although the two often over lap

Would have agreed with you 100% until recently.

But started to get concerned when one of my kids arrives home from school few months ago with a consent form to be signed for a list of vaccinations to be given the next day. Much less than 24 hours notice.

When read the pharmaceutical company's info on these vaccines, was quite shocked. It was made very clear that some were known to, statistically have a very much greater chance of causing long term side effects, every bit as damaging and severe, some more so, than the statistically very rare condition's they were supposed to prevent.

Maybe more a case of kickbacks and corruption than real conspiracy theory stuff???

    i'm not sure that's true

That looks like I posted that bit about it being more difficult to fake the moon landing than do it. It looks like theirs and my quotes got combined, kinda same as when I quoted Duggy's post looked like all my post..

You would have included the Americans spying on the entire world as one of his crazy beliefs until, well, it was shown that they are spying on us. Indiscriminately.

Whilst talk of lizard people etc are beyond the realms, we have no idea of the extent of what is going on. And you certainly wont hear it on RTE, BBC or Sky.
Proves that it is practically impossible to keep a largescale plot against citizens secret.

The average conspiracy theorist is narrow minded. There are some cultured people who can see the obvious.

None of us know the real reality we live in so the best thing you can do for yourself is to take it all in and decide for yourself if a time comes that you need to make a choice.

Don't take it personally. Different strokes for different folks :-)

the US echelon system was known about for years. The Snowden revelations were really just updating what a lot of people know.

To be honest If I heard about US intelligence services spying on anyone I wouldn't be surprised. If I heard that they were promoting US interests through disinformation, I wouldn't be surprised.
I'd believe that the KGB do the same for russians, GCHQ/MI5/MI6 for the UK etc...

that's not the same as believing that there's some shadowy group controlling everyone in every country. It's not even the same as beleiving the CIA are secretly in control. Take a look at the CIA's attempts to assassinate Castro. They were laughably bad.
Snowden wasn't even employed by the NSA. He was a contractor who walked out with all their secrets.
Chelsea manning was a Private who was able to get access to tens of thousands of sensitive documents and back them up on a hard drive.

The statistically rare conditions you're vaccinating against are rare because of vaccination. See how rare they would be if everyone stopped. Polio is making a nice comeback in places like Pakistan because the locals are fearful of the vaccine. So many lives ruined because of ignorance.
