Wait a sec, if I want the bow do I need to unlock the original phantom dog tag. Coz one of the requirements is 200 tank kills and I've only 14 kills.. And it'll be a long long time before I get to 200.

Yeah, afraid so :( Just to simply be allowed downstairs you need to be wearing the Phantom weapon camo, Phantom soldier camo and Phantom dogtag.

Seems like I'll be waiting a while as well, MASSIVE attack on EA at the minute, all servers down.....

Right that's it, my dog tag search is over. I'm never getting that bow and in a way I'm happy. A weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I can just play the game again..

I'll be buying dragon age 3 soon so I'll get all the bow usage I need from that..

Yeah EA sorted it very quickly to be fair

Was great to see allies and enemies helping each other to unlock this, shame the server went to complete sh1te after about 10 minutes though:mad:. Idiots started to stop other players getting to the elevator for some stupid reason:confused::confused:

Sorry Cobra, I genuinely was planning on some GTA Online until this came about tonight.

Myself and keithc83 did a quick little test where I committed suicide to see if he could pick up the bow. He couldn't interact with it at all, presumably because he hasn't completed all the Phantom Assignments. Not definitive or anything but as far as I remember, I could pick up other players kits.

By coincidence I picked up your Engineer kit just before as well Darren and when i tried with the bow equipped there was no option to pick up your kit at all. It probably is, as you said, because I don't have the Phantom assignments completed. I should have paid closer attention to this, it was a great Easter Egg.

The Phantom Assignments by themselves aren't too bad, as long as you're working on them when they're unlocked. The problem is if you let them build up

Most likely stayed online all day after unlocking it. Probably a few bow only servers set up, especially on PC. You could easily knock out 500 kills in the 14 hours or so since it went public.

    Because I'm an idiot, it turns out that I forgot to activate the 4th Phantom Assignment while downstairs getting the bow last night :(. So I had to jump back on this morning and do it all again. It took awhile to find a server that wasn't full of dıckheads but eventually I managed to go back down for it. Here are my first 2 "official" kills with it now that the Assignment is active........and the worst support player ever:D;

How do you activate the 4th assignment, is there something extra to do while downstairs? And your first kill with the bow was nice! Will we be getting a bow chopper kill from you at some point i wonder? :D

Yeah there's a little document you gotta interact with downstairs, hidden up on a cabinet so you gotta climb a bit.
Even the explosive bolt won't damage choppers so I'm gonna have to snipe the pilot through the window.....easy.....

Wow, DICE really thought this Easter Egg through didn't they?! Maybe if i eventually learn and practice how to fly a jet i can get those 20 kills, then the Phantom assignments won't seem so far away from completion.
What a clip that would be though....even a gunner on the transport chopper would be some shot!

Just for anyone interested in knowing all the steps needed for unlocking the bow, and how the code for the bow room was found.
Possibility of the door at the back of that room having something in it too possibly...

The Attack Jet is a relatively easy way to get the kills. The 30mm GAU cannon shreds lightly armored vehicles and can finish off tanks/boats/choppers etc. Laser guided bombs make jet skis, quads and jeeps easy targets.

Don't mean to be a dick here but if people can't manage a range of kills over different guns and vehicles well then that is a little ridiculous given that surely the reason this game is played over other fps games is the variety so why not embrace that?

Re bow, I will never get it because I am not looking for those tags. That is not why I play battlefield for? Nuisance so that I don't have some guns because I don't at single player and I won't get the bow despite using all weapons and vehicles.

    Hmmmm

Some dude was kicking ass using the FYJS so I said I will give it a go. I used a suppressor and x6 scope and got myself my record number of.sniping kills oddly enough in my first round.

Obviously have to be within 100 metres though as otherwise a head shot won't kill.

The other night I found a sniper, put some c4 down and threw a flash bang...humiliating flags bang kill :)

I see where you're coming from but I think weapons and vehicles should be a separate argument. Most of the lads here are very adaptable regarding class and weapon use, especially the guys I'd find myself squading up with regularly. Rarely do we have to suggest someone run Support cos we need ammo, or someone swap to Engineer to deal with the armour. I've no issue with someone who prefers infantry combat as long as they get on flags, call out or spot enemies and PTFO.
I personally think that the biggest issue with vehicles, is that the skill gap is quite high; the gulf between the good players and the average players can be huge in vehicles, particularly jets. It's pretty disheartening getting destroyed every time you get in a tank, or a jet by a guy who's probably spent 500 hours in just that vehicle. Turns a lot of players off vehicle combat.

I am definitely one of those players that wants to adapt to flying jets/choppers but i am average at best. And many times i have been absolutely destroyed on a server because of the above, coming up against veterans who have the skill, and my piloting skills leave a lot to be desired as well. lol
And for all my practice on the Test Range its completely different on a ranked server. So like me, i think there are a lot of people out there who want to get better or just spend time in the vehicles but more often than not you come up against guys who are going 50-0 in choppers/jets.

I did find that if you join enough servers, you'll always come across a player worse than you in any vehicle :D

I was able to get on for about half an hour earlier, and even though I hate TDM, I had an absolutely great round of 400% Phantom Bow only. So much damn fun :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 460 ✭✭keithc83

That's because a lot of the time you are on a server that i'm on in a vehicle! :D
I'd say that bow is fun, especially on bow only servers. Trying to get on each evening this week, even if its for only an hour, and chip away at the phantom assignments. Slow progress but I should've been going at these before now lol

Since no one posted a challenge I'll post a new open challenge BUT I'm going to re-introduce an older System I used called with 3 different Tiers.

Since a lot of the posts are about Infantry and Vehicle adpation.

The Tier System consists of 3 Tiers.
    Tier 3 : Infantry ( Example: 100 Kills with X. 5 Ribbons with X.)
All open/kit challenges to this point have been Tier 3 challenges.
Tier 2 : Vehicles OR Operational mobility.
This Tier deals with vehicles ribbons or kills - Operational mobility deals with game mode specifics Rush M-Com destroy/defend ribbons Conquest Captures/Defends etc. Both vehicle AND Operational Mobility cannot be challenged at the same time.
    Tier 1 : Top Tier
This Tier was ever only taken up by 3 people (myself included). I have little experience in creating Top Tier challenges (And I created the system to begin with)

So we'll see how this works out.(If it doesn't I'll revert back to the single open challenges) I won't be taking part this week however I will keep score.

    It's easy - don't worry.

Open Challenge - The Hard Hitter
    Tier 3:
    Kit: Support
    Primary Weapon: M249 OR MG4
    Attachments: RDS OR Holo sight
    Tact light AND/OR a green/red laser
    Heavy barrel
    Any underbarrel attachment
    Secondary Weapon: .44 Magnum
    Attachments:Iron sights
    Compensator
    No accessories
    Grenade: M67 Frag
    Gadgets: Optional
Objective: 5 LMG Ribbons (30 Kills)

    Tier 2:
    Vehicles
3 Main Battle Tank ribbons (15 Kills)
    2 Watercraft Ribbons (8 Kills)

    Tier 1:
    Top Tier challenge.
Become Number 1 (MVP) on your team using the above kit of the M249 and .44.
Since this is a specific challenge it has to be proven that you were top of the team so either a screenshot OR a link to the Battle Report where we can see the full details including weapons used.

Tier 1 can be on Rush/Conquest/Obliteration etc HOWEVER since you have to get the MVP on your team (no Ribbon). Squad matches are restricted because that simply means you just have to best 4 others or if you wanted to be smart about it you could lock yourself in a squad, so that's the one restriction on this Tier

    Time Limit: Friday at 18:00 (28th) - Friday at 18:00 (5th)

This challenge may seem like a lot to take on but that's how I originally designed them and I never figured challenges would become used as much (weekly) as they have by boards.ie so I'm chancing re-introducing my old system as it does add a lot more variety to the challenges.

In the event you only want to completed one Tier you can choose the one you wish to do, although you can't choose Tier 1 as a standalone challenge.

In any case see what you think of it and if it works out then that's great if not we already have the template for the single open challenges and if no one wants to do challenges for a few weeks then I can suspend it for a few weeks until a few more people return to the Battlefield.

Just be mindful that you will have to learn to adapt with this system. Normal challenges are designed to knock up your gameplay and take you out of your comfort zone while the Tier version adds some more unknown variables to the mix (For some reasons vehicles caused most issues)

M249???? Fùck it, I'm back in. Even if it means I've gotta put away my bow :(
