I have never been a huge fan of Hummels. Defo a good player but his fee will be astronomical and I'm not sure he is worth it.

If he flops and the club have no issues with dropping more money to replace him, cool. If he is most of our budget for a summer, not so cool.

Mike Phelan landed the Norwich first team coaches job. Best of luck to him.

Oh to be a shorts salesman in Norwich right now.

I heard they asked him last week and he said yes

Valencia did a twitter Q&A, you can guess how that went.90% of the questions were along the lines of "why are you so crap at crossing"?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,134 ✭✭✭✭Rayne Wooney

Have to disagree. You are going to be talking €50/60m maybe even €70 million to get him (There would be competition from the other big clubs no doubt). I've never subscribed to the idea that the money shouldn't matter to fans, it does matter, and thats far too much to risk if there are doubts about long term fitness.

He is a good defender but he is no Maldini, there will be other options out there.

We paid almost 40 million for Shaw who may never reach Hummels' level. I don't see how the benefit doesn't outweigh the risk on this one. I doubt the club would sign him if there were serious long term medical issues

I'm not a fan of comparing prices and risk factors of young English talent and older foreign talent. Take these two as an example. Shaw is the best fullback prospect in the country at a time when we were replacing our stalwart left back. As an English kid, he most likely won't want to move elsewhere, as long as we are competing.

At worst he gets injured and doesn't make the grade, middleground, he'll not reach his world class potential but you'll have an able backup/starter for 6 years of his contract. At best, you have a position sorted for 15 years with a great player.

Hummels will be the guts of 27 if we sign him next summer. At worst, he gets injured badly or flops. Middleground, he'll be a decent addition to the team but will take time to adapt and will continue to suffer the injuries of the last 3 years, at best we get 4 great years out of him before he gets slower or fancies a move home.

The risks are very different for the two and for me, the Shaw spend makes far more sense. Also, no way we get Hummels for €40m. Far more likely to be £40/45m imo.

I dread his press conferences now, every week there seems to be a new setback.

At least Di Maria and and De Gea are fit.

That is a disaster for Blind. To get that at the start of your career in the big time must be heartbreaking.

Confusion over Daley Blind from LVG. He actually said he's 'not out for six months' and that injury not as bad as initially feared

Seeing rumours today linking us with Adil Ram, anyone else reckon he would be a great signing?

    Taken from manutd.com

“Blind is not ready, he has a brace on his knee. He needs 10 days' rest. Then we'll have another scan and say more about his injury. It's not as bad as the doctors thought after the match, but it shall be a long story, I believe, six months or something.”

Thats heartbreaking. I've really fallen in love with him and think he's been a major, major upgrade to our midfield. Devestated.

I'd tend to agree. He has these amazing, stand out performances at times alright but he's by no means perfect. He has the turning circle of an oil tanker and gets exposed a fair bit. The other CBs at the club and the full backs have a fair bit of pace in general so he might fit in at Utd without too many problems though.

LvG said he's not out for six months, quite clearly said it too.

    Edit
Van Gaal on Blind: "It's not as bad as the doctors thought after the match. It shall be a long story - but not six months or so."

Sad for Blind, I really thought he started his Utd Career well.
This surely put's the need for a DM & CB into overdrive in January.

Any word on Shaw & Falcoa for the Arsenal match?

    Edit

thats hilarious, they have changed their quote on manutd.com

"Blind is not ready to play. He has now a brace on his knee, 10 days' rest, then we have to make another scan and we can say more about his injury. It's not so bad as the doctors are thinking after the match, but it shall be a long story, I believe, but not six months or something."

Just cancel Falcaos loan now and buy a new striker and defender.

Van Gaal tells #MUTV that @Falcao "has a new injury" and is at least two weeks away from a first-team return. #mufc

So far it looks like it would be madness to buy him permanently.

So far yes but give him until after Christmas at least before writing him off injury wise. It's not easy to come back from those type of injuries without picking up niggles and such. Vidic was the same when it happened to him, ok his performance never really reached pre injury form but his ability to play consistently certainly has.

No, it was madness to sign him in the first place when we had RVP, Rooney, Welbeck and Wilson.

Agreed. Completely unnecessary signing and a complete waste of whatever money it has cost us. And I will say the same if he ever gets back to full fitness, we didn't need him.
