Its good that you have an infographic immediately to hand so. Just like innuendo you'll be able to whip out as required.

The apps screen has gotten a facelift, has an option to add favourites now. The you tube app has had its interface updated also.

Hi Folks, thanks for the posts. Sure I wasn't clear. I only mentioned bridge mode is that seemed to be quite straightforward solution for the possibly poor wifi reception. I live in a 2bed apt., so in worst case I'd try that AP, doesn't look that expensive.

To make the picture more clear, yes, the desktop PC has a dual GB Lan (Gbyte EP45-DSR3 mobo), but that doesn't really matter, I'm barely switching it on.

The real reason of me asking was to see if Horizon box and service from UPC is improving since it was introduced. Right now I'm waiting for the 4th replacement of the bloody Cisco HD DVR, and switching to Horizon seems to cost less per month than the current 3in1 package. I'm really worried to switch, but unlike 1yr ago I'm not plaing online FPS anymore, main use is P2P d/l, YT, web/email,flickr,etc..so if I can get a better package at the same (or even a bit lower) price I'd probably switch to horizon.

    Cheers
    B

The Horror box has more features, but I don't think the speed of the interface or reliability is any better than the old box. It might even be slightly worse. I switched to it to reduce my bills, get more HD channels and 4 channel recording. So happy enough with that. I was expecting it to be a crappy UI and it is. Especially the lag and delete everything you ever recorded being too easy too press. TBH I was happy with my old 30mb speed. Could stream 1080p no problem before, so 120mb has no real effect on me. I had to use my own wifi router to get reliable wifi.

But UPC billing is a shambles. Thats been the biggest disappointment. Anyone in the wider family that changed their bill/package all have billing issues, that take weeks to resolve. If I was doing it again I'd just get the Internet from UPC, and get Saorview/Freesat in. Just to avoid the billing issues. I find using Netflix, NowTV works well enough that I don't really need any of the extra channels from UPC.

Depends on your usage of course.

Anyone else experiencing issues with the Horizon box where the internet drops from 120Mb/s to about 15Mb/s or less every couple of days? Rebooting the box sorts it out immediately but it's becoming a pain in my backside.

I had UPC horizon installed Monday. As soon as the tech left, I realised the on demand wasn't working. As well as that, the screen was freezing 2-3 times a day when in the on demand menu and the box had to be plugged out to reboot. Rang them and they sent a tech out this morning who said that the software must not have loaded properly on the box. He installed a new one and left. He was gone 20 minutes before the new box started freezing  The on demand is working this time but the box has frozen and had to be restarted twice already  Can anyone tell me if there is a way of fixing this? I am on the verge of ringing UPC and telling them where to stick their shoddy shìte hardware

They regularly change their content. sounds like they just removed it.

Currently on the 200mb broadband pack and on Sky for tv, I rang UPC to get a quote of 80 quid per month all in to upgrade to their Horizon HD TV pack with broadband & phone.

Sounded like a very good deal until the girl I was dealing with wanted a once off activation fee of nearly 100 euro.

    Madness

Never Heard of that, Must be something new. But what I would do is ring back, Listen
to all the sales bull**** from them, Then when they ask for
the E100 , tell them You want to speak to a " Customer Loyalty Representative".
The person on the phone is normally just a call
centre employee, But the "CLR" can do things like remove any
added charges. If You have no look then, try telling them that
You are thinking of switching completely to SKY, That usually
gets their attention, Good Luck :D

Thanks, I've gone that route last year with Sky and got free HD and a 40% reduction in my sub for 6 months.

Think 100 quid is very mean though, I know a business is a business but current subs never get any benefits unless they call to unsubscribe.

Does anyone know how to find out how much storage space you have left for recordings.

Been through all the menu and can't find it.

Go into settings--- recordings & reminders----used disc space

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,043 ✭✭✭Wabbit Ears

By default the box automatically removes the oldest and watched recordings, this is the 'auto' setting in disk management. So basically, you can have the disk full all the time and it will clear space as it needs it. Juts remember to protect anything that you've partly watched and want to go back and re-watch.

    How do you protect them?
I think I have all of them protected because it doesn't record over things I've saved, though it does ask but if I'm not at home, it obviously just cancels the current recording.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,043 ✭✭✭Wabbit Ears

In the my recordings when youre looking at a recording protect is just down the menu from play.

It sounds like youve your recording set to never delete anything as opposed to Auto which is the default.

Dublin upgrade is running until the 26th so you may not have it yet. there's a post about the dates on the UPC forum.

Did anyone see the option in settings to pair a multiroom box wirelessly? Are these boxes available already?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,930 ✭✭✭zg3409

I don't think they every launched any multiroom boxes. The only boxes for multiroom are the old boxes which use TV coax and cannot access anything from Horizon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 213 ✭✭KenH

I got it. An improvement. Still a lot to do. I did notice the WiFi range was better.

Do a search on the internet and you will find pictures of the (smaller) extra box. It seems to be working as a "slave" box to the main box.

boards.ie has tighten up the rules so I cannot post links any more (no thanks ieboards for that!)

The Horizon multiroom box is not available yet in Ireland
Its only available in Holland and only in test stage

    Seems to be. In settings/diagnostics there's a used space % ?

Its probably all in the change log we'll never get.

    Found it, thanks.

Can you please tell me how to delete a multiple recording which was manually entered.

My wife has set up senanta to record 800 minutes each saturday and sunday in error.

    Thanks

I think its in menu/my library/my schedule or something like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,043 ✭✭✭Wabbit Ears

    Menu>My Library>My Planner

  • Registered Users Posts: 114 ✭✭your desired user name

Thanks but had tried that..no option to delete all future recordings, just the ones that are showing for the next 14 or so days

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,043 ✭✭✭Wabbit Ears

does cancel all bookings not work?

  • Registered Users Posts: 114 ✭✭your desired user name

does cancel all bookings not work?

Would that cancel all other booked series also?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,043 ✭✭✭Wabbit Ears

Perhaps try this. If you go into the planner, goto the Menu>My Library>My Planner and goto one of the recordings for setanta and then press ok and goto Add extra time.

In their change it to a single recording, and then just delete that single booking.

Kinda a round about way of doing it but its should work.

Be careful. You have to do into (ok) the planned series to get the delete "this" series option.

In the menu above, cancel all booked series I think deletes all series recordings off the box.

They should bury these delete "all recording" in another menu.

That's not on my box any more.
To delete everything, I have to do it one by one or series by series.

Have they removed the option to change what channel the wifi is being broadcast on using the remote? Can this only be done via a PC now?

And has anyone ever figured out how to get the wifi signal to stop dropping? It's done it 4 times on me tonight, usually in the middle of youtube videos. I brought this up in the "talk to...." forum but there's only so many times i can respond to "can you pm us your details......okay, we've changed your settings, see if it happens again"

That used to happen to me, funny I got the UPC reps to look at it and it hasnt really happened in any appreciable way since

@ should i have to put up this crap".

I've read online that the only way to get this rectified* is to get a separate router, which costs money, obviously  Has anyone convinced them to send one out free of charge?

*I did find this post, though, so i've tried the fix suggested. Here's hoping.

There are programmes you can get for your Mac/PC which will show you all the networks in range, which channel they're on, and their strength. That'll at least show you if there's a problem with contention on the channels or if the signal from the Horizon box is weak.

Ideally you could use the 5GHz band as that's relatively unused, but for some reason it's disabled on the Horizon interface. The lack of external antennae means it probably wouldn't be as good as a 3rd party router anyway.

It's a pain, but I long ago decided to pony up for a new router, now getting up to 150Mbps over Wifi and no drops (that I've noticed). Happy days.

Horizon newbie hoping someone can help. I can't figure out how to stream a full album from my devices, when I select the album it goes straight into track listing, when I select a track it will play that and only that song, it doesn't move to the next. Surely I'm missing something as it should be relatively simple to play an album start to finish?

Turn ON media scanning ( its in the setup network section of settings).

In My Library find the album in My Music instead of my devices and you can play the whole album.

Will UPC really not issue 2 horizon boxes to one household?. Only one acting as a router of course.
