Straight from the horses mouth so to speak

    "Dear Adrian

    OpenChampionship Enquiry

Thank you for youremail dated 4 November 2014 regarding The Open Championship. ‘The OpenChampionship’ has always officially been known as such. The Championship hasbeen branded as ‘The Open Golf Championship’ and also ‘The Open’ but never ‘TheBritish Open’.

The term ‘BritishOpen’ was coined by writers and the media outside of the UK, particularly thosein the US, who used the term to differentiate The Open from the US Open. Other countriesdid so to distinguish The Open Championship from their own tournaments in theopen format.

I trust you willfind the above of interest.

    Yours sincerely

    Kevin

Congratulations on your effort, although I'm still unconvinced, that "email" is littered with grammatical and punctuation errors and I find it a little hard to believe that a curator of "any" musem would have such glaring errors.
Did you make that email up yourself by any chance?.

The Curator's direct line number is at the bottom of that email. Phone him up and ask him if you need further proof! It's your move. Otherwise, just admit you were wrong.
