This thread is for people to give their reviews or recommendations on places in KERRY to eat or socialise. Please be careful what you say though, as we don't want reviews which could get us in trouble! MOD

Maybe the Mods have access to it in the old Tralee thread?

Can we include nightclubs (as specifically requested, by the aptly named original poster) now that Fabric's, Benner's and the Stationhouse are sold ???????????

Perhaps the Mods may consider changing the title of the thread ? ('restaurants' was not requested)

There are no nightclubs in Tralee anymore (apart from Horan's, which opens 2 nights a week for college students), therefore we don't need to put in the word nightclub. Pubs have late bars, so its enough & there is no reason why restaurants can't be included, seeing as many bars serve food. MOD

Does Horan's Nightclub in Horan Centre not open any longer?

Not regularly. It opens 2 nights a week (Tues & Thurs I think) for students during the ITT term and closes rest of time, apart from the odd time a DJ is down at Halloween/Christmas & its closed most of the summer.

Ill be returning home for Christmas and i'm heading straight for the Mall Tavern for a nice quiet pint. Its hectic during breakfast/lunch but in the evening its a nice little bastion of quiet. Also looking forward to Hennessys and Sean Ogs. The village I live in in Estonia has 1 pub that closes at 9pm and its catered for boy racers so I am suffering from serious pub withdrawals here. :D

Also I wonder what peoples opinion of O'Donnells restaurant out in Monthawk is. I love the place personally. Great food and its lovely during christmas especially. A surprising amount of people tell me otherwise though.

We don't go out to eat much anymore (like many), but we recently went to get a Chinese in the Padoga up in Manor. It was a Monday night (for my birthday) and instead of getting it to take away, we decided to sit down. It was very quiet, which you'd expect on a Monday night. But the food in there is lovely, its my favourite Chinese in town. We usually get it to take away, and a few times we have got the meal for 2, which is only €26 and its so much food, too much for 2, we have fed 3 adults & a child with this one before!

Definitly one to try out if you haven't before. They seating area is really spacious and clean.

I like the Roast house for coffee and light snacks, bombay tandoori for takeaway, Quinlins is a good chipper but so is the green rooster and the burger shack in St Brendans park.

I'm not quite sure what purpose this thread serves if its all nicey nicey and negative reviews aren't permitted.
Otherwise its just a list of all the pubs and restaurants in town ?

Its not that negative reviews aren't allowed, we just don't want anything said that might be unfair to a business and get the board into trouble. It isn't tripadvisor, which is a joke of a site in my opinion! Just be careful if it is 'negative'.

But isn't it a good idea to promote a business in Tralee and give people recommendations? why shouldn't it be nicey nicey??

Went to the Roast House for lunch a couple of weeks ago, and had the most amazing beef toasted sandwich on sourbread! It was delicious! I love Quinlins fish & chips too! I'm starving now!:o

I'd rather a bit of realism too. Surely pointing out the negatives is equally as important as the positives, sometimes we can learn more from negative reviews than mutual back slapping.

I am talking about constructive criticism, not hatchet jobs. I mean if a certain establishment keeps serving deep fried "roast potatoes" that could break a tooth, that should be discussed I think

Yes we can have constructive criticism, no one said otherwise!

The Sunday World's Pub Spy was in Tralee,it was in The Rovers Return,Turners Lounge and An Teach Beag,

    The Rovers Return 2/5

    Turners Lounge 3/5

    An Teach Beag 3/5

It said The Rovers Return was the "old man's pub of Tralee" They werent happy with the toilets in Turners "the pints are creamy but the toilets are far from impressive" this was due to the floor of the gents been wet and having too many fag butts on the floor and An Teach Beag was " a nice little boozer that needs a little TLC"

The guinness in the rovers is second to none though. Old man's pubs are where its at - a good comfortable pub, with delicious pints and in general, your not ripped off. I like the castle bar too, the lads behind the bar are always on the ball, lovely place to catch a game and good pints too.

Just to add a critical counterpoint to the ball washing in the thread...

I think the Meadowlands has gone down an awful lot in recent years. I went there for lunch a few months ago and the place was quiet, yet the service was ridiculous. Waiter was a bit rude, very slow and when I was paying I heard him on the phone saying "we're up the walls here".... I was the only person in the place! I used to love going there for dinner/lunch but it seems like they've stopped trying.

Went to this establishment (Meadowlands}twice in the past few months for a few jars with friends Stood at counter unable to order for ten minutes on both occasions. Pub not very busy but got the impression that staff couldn"t be bothered whether i got served or not, Voted with my feet and left both times and will not be back

Anybody know a "decent clean modern" pub in Tralee that does NOT have blaring loud music on weekends. By weekends I mean Frid/Sat nights..............with Murphy's stout on draught if possible.

Hennessy's were charging a fiver a pint after midnight I reckon on St Stephen's night when I was in there. Is that the norm for Hennessy's?

Tommy Horan used do the same thing in his old ballroom, the prices would go up every half hour
