    no i dont feel better, and no matter what you say, dental work in this country is too expensive.

    the other poster said he is paid what the market will bare.... thats an interesting way of putting it. he is paid the maximum that people can afford, am i reading that right?

    well i have spent thousands and thousands on my damn teeth, and im sick of it. each round of work cost thousands more, so i guess i cant bare it.

    you think that fair?

    Just because you can't afford it doesn't make it too expensive, it just makes it too expensive for you.

    You may consider an item too expensive at €10, but if it costs €7 to produce, the vendor is not going to sell it at €6 just because you are fed up with having to pay €10.

    The market sets the rate, if it's too high then people won't pay it and the business suffers, if it's too low there is no profit and the business suffers, if it's at the right price then the business is busy and the price is at a rate which is acceptable to the consumer.

    Right now clinics are competing against clinics in the North and doing very well, a sign that prices are competitive. If you don't want to pay it, then don't, travel to Eastern Europe.

    If you have spent a lot of money, and still need more treatment, that is your own fault. Don't mind that crap about "you have enough of my damn money", brush your teeth and watch your diet, your teeth are that way because you allowed them to get that way and now have to pay if you want them fixed.

    i have the money, but ive already handed out too much to this particular profession, so its a mental barricade i cant get over.

    i dont like being ripped off. neither do you. to get ripped off over and over again, well, your not going to do it are you.

    Then don't get over that "barricade", don't get "ripped off" over and over again. Just spend the money on something else, dentistry is "fee per item" you only pay for what you have done. No treatment, no cost.

    okay. case in point, the below article , on the NHS website, entitled 'Does being poor make your teeth fall out?'

    the obvious answer to this is yes, because dentists have priced treatment out of the range of less well off people. When i was on the dole, i had to save and pay for root canals and crowns

    how much would that annoy you lol. trying to save all that money, or rather pay back all that money, when on such a meagre income

    the government doesnt cover root canals. why do you think this is... ill spell it out for you, because dentists have priced the treatment too high.

    i recall being on the medical card a few years back and being refused treatment with the dentist negotiated prices with the government. meanwhile muggins here was left with no treatment at all.

    i realise dentist spend a lot of time in college, and they had to get good grades and so on, i dont mean to belittle that. smart people. i can pick apart theyre motives though - they sure as hell didnt do it for altruistic reasons, that much is obvious.

    My point is, you are an adult with the ability to make your own mind up about what you spend your money on. If you don't want to spend it on your teeth, don't. No body will force you to.

    As a consumer you are free to travel anywhere you like. If you aren't happy to pay for treatment here, why not go somewhere else?

    Dental treatment is fee per item, you only pay for the treatment you have done so if you paid a lot, then you had a lot it treatment.

    Dental problems are self inflicted, if your teeth are bad, you are at fault, don't blame the dentist if you need a lot if work don't.

    You don't know how much it costs to provide dental services, you are not going to receive below cost treatment just because you whinge about paying for previous treatments.

    That report you linked had nothing to do with cost of treatment, NHS treatment is free to the most needy socioeconomic groups in the UK.

    Having a root canal treatment and crown was never considered an essential treatment under the med card scheme, they provided for alternatives, extraction and denture. They also considered crowns more a cosmetic treatment than functional necessity.

    You are having a moan, you are not the first, you won't be the last but you have to accept, you caused this problem and you are going to have to pay to have it fixed. Just shop around for the cheapest place you can find and go there. Simples.

    root canals and crowns are cosmetic?

    you obviously dont have dentures. they are rubbish to eat with. to condemn a section of society to a substandard experience is not right, no matter what way you cut it.

    Ok so, have it your way. Out of spite I don't think you should give dentists any more of your money.

    OP if you think its too expensive, dont pay it or find somewhere cheaper and i say that as someone who along with my wife have spent over 20K and probably closer to 30K on dental work over the last few years.

    Fitz locked the thread for a very good reason, this subject has been done more times than we can count. It is going to be locked again. If you have any issue with that take it to the DRP forum.
