Are you getting Full Speed with UPC

    Hi

    Im on the 200mb UPC Horizon package, at first I was getting full speed but lately im only getting between 80mps and 135 mps wired. i called UPC who in fairness sent out an engineer who tested the line and got full speed. He also ran a test using my cable a cat 5e and also got full speed.

    I tested it later that day and only got up to 135mps :mad: is this contention ? Not much point having 200mps when you cant get it

    The test servers can't handle higher end connections, its most likely that which is bottlenecking it.

    I get 122Mb solid. Samknows confirms.

    I also get the same speeds on the upc speedtest site

    So when the engineer was there did you carry out a parallel test on your own setup?

    Same here in Bray, although I don't always get that result on Speedtest.net, and often get lower results in the evenings when things get a bit busier, but that's understandable. I always get the full whack on the UPC speedtest though.

    Bought a cat 6 cable today just ran a test this is what i got

    I get full speed i.e 120mb if I plug a physical cat 5 cable from my Laptop directly in to the UPC box. This was tested via speedtest.net

    If I go on wireless, I only get 40mb

    cant recall the upload speeds

    I regularly get over 200mbps. PC is connected to the UPC box via a 20m long (!) CAT-5 cable + passive switch

    Full film download takes about 30s :D

    Edit: just checked now, getting 192mbps. And there's probably other people in the house using wifi atm.

    Just Ran it on UPC looks good atm but it will drop to under 100 in a while

    Last Result:
    Download Speed: 188780 kbps (23597.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
    Upload Speed: 20848 kbps (2606 KB/sec transfer rate)

    My speed is terrible since i've moved house. I used to think so higly of UPC and now it barely works for me. router is downstairs and i can't move it. there is one signal booster but it's not that great either, so I was wondering if somebody could recomend something good? can't even play xbox online since i've moved

    are you using wireless?
    Wireless g/n is crap for speed regardless of router especially in UPC's case.
    The only routers that give you upto the upc 200meg speed etc are the new 801ac routers. Have one and they're brilliant. As long as you have an ac adapter :)

    failing that get a kit of homeplug kits from argos for 30 quid and use those..they'll give you full speed or close to it if you're on the 100meg.

    I'm on eircom efibre and I'd happily kill every eircom worker to get upc where I live as I moved and UPC don't have fibre where I am :(

    Oh I see, I didn't even know such a thing existed. so I plug one beside the router then the other in my room and conncet with ethernet cables right?

    gonna pop in to argos when I have the time and pick these up so, Thanks for the info!


    edit: meant to mention i've got the 200mbs speed, but yeah through wifi it's only 100, and considering the amount of computers and phones being used in my house it's even less than that at times

    Seems to be Upc Poland. Not sure what happened there.

    They move IP's around geographically a lot. The database ookla do lookups again hasnt changed yet(it may be the main registration hasn't yet either).

    The connection went 2 times yesterday and again toady, called upc told them to take back the equipment as i was not paying €80 per month for this crap service.. they have agreed to send out a new router just hope its not the Technicolor TC7200 it seems troublesome

    My internet and phone have been gone since 3pm, in west Dublin. Absolute pain in the h**e.

    Their check your service page is also not working. It just keeps loading when I enter my account number.

    The service status page is not updated outside certain hours - the very time that customers need it. Despite many requests UPC refuse to state this on the page thereby deliberately misleading customers.

    I see now that they replied to someone else on twitter saying there is a broadband outage and its getting looked at. Usually not gone for this long but I suppose its Sunday.

    Apologies but can you please explain to me exactly what those plugs do?

    I have UPC 200Mb but I never get anywhere near that, I get about 70-80 on one laptop, about 40 with my netbook and never more than about 30 with an iPad all of which I connect using WiFi. When I queried it they told me that the network adapters in these devices weren't able to handle more than 100Mb and if I wanted to get the max speed I would have to connect to the router with a network cable but this isn't practical because of its location.
    Will these plugs allow me to do this somehow?

    What's the point when it doesn't work at the very times it is most needed? It fact is counterproductive because there is every chance that on seeing there is apparently "no fault" a person will start messing around with their own settings thinking that the problem is theirs.
