Browns managed to go from top of the division to bottom in 4 hours yesterday. And the Ravens and Steelers didn't even play :pac:

pats and packers where both "done" a few weeks ago now the eagles are "done" after one bad game i love watching nfl but good god do people overreact to everything in this league

The Seahawks were going to repeat by week 3, the Broncos were walking to the Superbowl by about week 5/6, the Cowboys were possibly going 0-16 in August, were arguably the NFC favourites in week 6 or so, and now the talk is all their supposedly imminent collapse, and so on and so on.

I know a few people who lumped a lot of money on the Broncos to win the SB at really, really short odds (7/2 I think?) back in week 5. They do the same sh*t every year, and I tell them every year to hold on until, at the very very earliest, week 13 or so, and they lose out time and time again. One guy I know had the Seahawks early last year, apart from that the last time I can think of any of them winning it was the Colts... 8 years ago!

Amazing how some people get caught up in the hype train in this sport.

Don't be silly, Dallas have 2 more games to play before the annual collapse!

I'm just waiting for Romo to go 35-of-36 for 520 yards and 6 TDs, and get blamed for a 59-62 loss because of an incomplete pass he had on first down in second quarter. God I love that f***ed up Cowboy fan logic. :D

Yeah like anyone else I went straight to nfl.com when I heard about this throwing people under the bus and was very disappointed to find that he was relentlessly berating his own performance and quite reasonably pointing out that, as a team, they weren't doing nearly enough. A non-story that they really want to grow legs so that they can have someone to beat up on. I think the journalists would love to tear him asunder, for no other reason than that's entertainment.

Huh, Gruden isn't holding back all the same...although it's kind of funny that he's criticising RGIII for being stupid in the media, while he himself is taking the media's bull**** hook line and sinker. Kind of ironic that by criticising his QB that openly he's essentially feeding the exact flame the media themselves want to turn into a proper fire, and calling his own guy out as being naive and reckless in the process.

Is anyone watching this? Pretty entertaining start, two touchdowns in the opening 8 minutes. Can't stay up any longer unfortunately but definitely looking decent right now.

Take note NFL defences - don't try to rush Ben Roethlisberger - he's better after getting hit than if you don't hit him :o

Well this has so far been an unexpectedly entertaining game. Mettenberger looking decent, Ben getting beat up yet you still feel he's got a few big plays in him, and only 4 points in it. Better than the last few prime time games anyway.

Between this, the Jets and the Bucs games, win or lose I am absolutely not betting on the Steelers again all season. Should have just backed Bell to go over 82.5 yards at 5/6.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,495 ✭✭✭✭Billy86

24-13 now. Going to lose on them tonight, lost in them against the Jets, lost on them against the Bucs, lost on betting against them vs Houston thanks to the craziest 3 minutes of the season and lost on them against the Colts thanks to Ben having a GOAT type performance.

I hope their bus crashes into a mousetrap factory on the way home.

Never seen a team blitz as often as Tennessee. It's relentless. Although they've left the secondary exposed a bit on this drive.

The Steelers need to keep on using Bell against it - his style of slowly approaching the line and finding his best gap makes him one of the worst backs in the league to get caught out blitzing against, just needs half a gap and he's got 6+ yards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,408 ✭✭✭spiritcrusher

Yep. Back to using Bell heavily on that drive and what dya know, opens up the play action and in goes the TD.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,495 ✭✭✭✭Billy86

I think we can all agree if the Steelers hold on that this fourth quarter comeback performance by Roethlisberger is a far better performance than either of his two 6 TD games recently. :p

Really good game tonight. Looks like steelers have control now but it seemed that way earlier on too. Titans might have nothing more to offer

They've been having success against the secondary all day, I wouldn't call it over by a long shot. Bell has been smart by going out of bounds and avoiding contact at times too, just hoping he has a bit more in him at 25 carries already.

Great drive by Ben to hold onto the fourth quarter comeback made by Ben.

That's two 200 yard RB games that have saved my bacon the last two nights! :D

    Had the Dolphins on Thursday...

Denver Broncos @ St Louis Rams

Oakland Raiders @ San Diego Chargers
    Detroit Lions @ Arizona Cardinals
Philadelphia Eagles @ Green Bay Packers

DET/ARI is about as much of a coin flip as you will find all season.
9-5, pretty poor showing all in all. Don't think anyone had the Bengals or Rams!

    100-42-1 for the year.

Seriously tough week to call. Not expecting a great return on that set of predictions.

7-7...good God that was even worse than I was expecting. 106-55 for the season.

Yep they have been skewed for sure but, tbh, the silliest thing is him not remembering any media training and deciding to go the extra bit and say what he said about his team mates.

I'd say the moment he came out with it he knew he had fudged things up and it was going to be jumped all over. If he wanted to speak about accountability for results and performances he should've known to only reference himself directly and if we wanted to speak about the team as a whole then phrased it a hell of a lot better.

It's the type of thing where I'm sure it's a non issue in the dressing room given they will have heard the full transcript but it has nevertheless now generated the type of attention that doesn't help matters. Especially when there isn't a week that goes by without debate or comment on the Redskins QB situation and who should be declared starter if anyone.

I've just realised I've wasted more than enough lines on debating how professional athletes should address the media :pac:

I think its being harsh on RG3. After the Patriots 4th game, Tom Brady
I don’t think anybody has really found their stride this year,” Brady told WEEI, via the Boston Herald. “I don’t know who you can point to on offense and say, ‘Wow, they’re really clicking.’”

When it was suggested that wide receiver Julian Edelman (10 passes for 84 yards yesterday, top 10 in the league in both receptions and yards) might qualify, Brady reluctantly let him in the club.

“Yeah, he’s done a good job, so that’s one,” Brady said. “We’ve got a lot of other guys on offense. There’s 22 other guys on offense, so I’m not going to sit here and say every single guy is clicking. We’ve had one individual player that’s caught some passes. Great. Does that make a good offense? I don’t think so. . . .

“We’ve all got to figure out how to do a better job of that. It’s not one person. It’s not not singling any person out to say, ‘Wow, if this person were out, or if this person were in.’ I mean, if we had 11 people on the field that were producing like Julian Edelman, we’d have a pretty good offense. We’ve got one guy.”

now maybe Brady is wording it slightly better than RG3, but if the media wanted, they could write the same misleading articles about Brady slating his team mates that they are for RG3. It maybe a case of Brady escaping the wrath as they know better, but I think its harsh to be singling out RG3 for some very harmless comments.

Other side of that is that Brady has earned the right to say these things like the team isn't doing their jobs properly, and use the media as a chance to get the message out to the team. He's one of the best players of all time so others sit up and take notice.

The difference is that RG3 has come back from injury, had a poor game himself and doubts still remain about whether he is good enough following that major injury last year. In that position he should just be going with the old 'I just got to worry about myself, I need to get better so the team can get better' line. Because otherwise those guys he's saying aren't playing well are going to look at Colt McCoy and say - well at least we won a game with that guy this season.

yeah I know Brady earns that, but the point being, the media will twist anything that they want for news hits and sensationalism. I just think taking into context everything RG3 said, he is coming in for undue criticism, seeing as he slated himself first, before then saying the team as a hole needs to do better.

Yeah it's a bit of a joke, so he is the role of the media. Likewise if RGIII came out and said "Relax" like Rodgers did after the loss to the Lions there would be uproar that he doesn't care about the team, is just picking up a paycheck, etc. It's really annoying because you have to look long and hard to get a player or coaches proper opinion or insight unless they have already retired as a result, and probably three quarters of stories that come based on hebsaid/she said are absolutely meaningless as a result.

Oh I agree, and even Gruden's comments yesterday got twisted to the point where it's "Gruden hits back at RG3 comments" when again Gruden said before he mentioned RG3 at all that it was his job to make the collective ready to play and right now nobody is ready to do that.

Last time I checked D-Jax is still on that roster.... If they're looking for something of actual substance they could surely just turn to him.
