    I'm onto you.

Oh yeah sure you want an 'ethical', 'responsible', 'non-monogamous' relationship.

    Puh-lease.

So what are our thoughts on this? A legitimate alternative lifestyle or a bunch a of randy hipsters who dress up their fear of commitment in fancy words?

    There is one isnt there?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    Ah Polly mon amour.

I was in love with a Polly once.

    Quite the plumage.

    She always talked back though.

Turned out she was only with me for my crackers.

I know now why the caged bird sings.

    For crackers.

Live and let live is what I reckon. It wouldn't be for me, but that's irrelevant :)

I appreciate it because at least the party is being honest rather than cheating on you behind your back, though i don't like sharing personally but each to their own

I think it's quite interesting. I'd try it TBH but I'm a selfish git so I can't see it going well for anybody involved but me

I know a few. Nice people (the ones I know) but I wouldn't be comfortable in a relationship with them as I value monogamy in my relationships.

She left me for some long-haired American lad who wrote a song about her and then blew his head off.

    Some birds eh?

In all seriousness my old flatmate was in a relationship with a girl who wanted a polyamorist relationship with him. He talked about it to me a lot because he had never been in that kind of relationship before and wasn’t sure about it.
The way he described it she wanted them to be in a committed relationship with each other but that they were free to experience sex with other people if they wanted to without that being seen as cheating. There were conditions which they had with each other that are different for each polyamorist couple but they had to be honest with each other and with the people they are with not keep the experiences outside the relationship secret. She even gave him some literature on it to read. The idea from what I gathered was that basically their relationship should be based on a connection that was much more then sex and that their love was not restrictive and didn’t prevent them from loving others in the same way.

Their relationship had problems outside of the polyamorist issues which added in didn’t help so they broke up.
After that relationship he continued to learn about the lifestyle and wanted to try another relationship that was polyamorist.
He dated a couple of girls and was open with them about each other.

I moved out and he moved away so I’m not sure if he still believes in it or not as I don’t speak to him often and haven’t asked

I wonder, if you're not comfortable with being in an open relationship, does it really just come down to insecurity?

Just buy your girlfriend a load of wigs and only shag her doggy style...

Maybe it is all insecurity but there is a big difference between the insecurity of say being jealous of X's or trying to control what clothes some-one wears for fear of the opposite sex, compared to not wanting them to have sex with other people.

Not that I disagree, but why do you think they're different?

Each to their own & it it works congrats.. but imho... it's a cover up for love/sex addiction and lack of intimacy/commitment... dilutes the love in all dat! ;o)

I knew a guy who was in his fifties and had kids with his wife and also had a girlfriend in the same small town. He spend Fri, Sat, Sun with the wife and the rest of the week with the girlfriend. There never seemed to be any issue...
