Plucking machine

    Here just wondering if there was anyone with a plucking machine in the Dublin area? I know its easier to skin them but Its easier to give them away when they are just plucked and can be roasted.

    I'll pay an few quid per bird

    You don't need a plucking machine. Get a pair of PVC gloves, bucket of boiling water. Put the bird/s into bucket of boiling water for a few minutes. ( boiling water expands skin that grips feathers). Hold up with one hand birds legs and with the other grab body of bird and pull off feathers till bird is smooth as a babies arxe.
    I've done a tonne of poultry and game this way.

    Thanks for that vincentf! I would be a little worried about putting them in hot water that it may cook them and cause bateria. But ill give it a go and we shall see.

    I thought they had to go into boiling water for a plucking machine to work?

    Dunno, but it only takes a minute to strip by hand after being in the boiling water.

    Between 52-56 degrees celsius is the optimum temperature for plucking most birds. Anything more doesnt serve a purpose other than starting to cook the bird. Yes, birds going into pluckers also need to be put into that temperature water for 60-120 seconds for the pores to open. Only difference is the plucker has a rubber finger, and you have your fingers.

    if your plucking many look up youtube for ideas on how to make a plucker you can get an attachment for cordless drills etc

    Gut the bird and leave it in the fridge for a few days, feathers will come of a lot quicker and easier compared to trying to pluck fresh.
