It's easy to never be wrong when you've always got an excuse.
4 months ago (with less CAP locks) you were saying he couldn't compete because he was too short of the tee

its quite simple why Sergio is shots ahead of Lowry.Sergio is longer off the tee.Lowry loses shots by not making birdies on the par 5's and struggles for pars on the long 4s. In 2008 Mcilroy was 280 off the tee, lowry was 290 according to European
Tour Stats. Lowry is no longer off the tee than when he started playing on tour.He needs a professional coach to take him to the next level. I think he is a very talented golfer, who needs to work on the weakneses in his game.If he were to work on his drives between now and the next Open-he would have a great chance of winning.no golfer will ever contend in Majors in America if they are not long off the tee.

He was 5 under on the par 5's today.

I've done a quick update on the world rankings and I think Shane will drop one place to 52nd as a result of Brooks Koepka moving up from 61st into the top 40 following his win today. By my reckoning, Shane will pick up 2.326 points for this week's performance and his average points will drop from 2.525 to 2.491.

All because he bummed up two holes. That triple was inexcusable - drive in the water, but that should only have cost him two shots.

Roll on Thursday......last chance for the Top 50 slot this year.

Maybe not, still a chance he'll be in the Nedbank.

I think inexcusable is a bit harsh. He nearly chipped in for a bogey. The short putt he missed was due to either lack of concentration or just shock at what he'd done with his tee shot. Sky didn't show the double at the next hole, so I've no idea what happened.

Golf is a funny game. You can be playing great one minute and the next minute, the wheels can fall off, just like that. It's hard to know what happened to Shane today. A momentary lapse of concentration? Maybe thinking ahead too much after eagling the 4th? Let's just hope he learns from it and moves on.

He clearly has tons of talent. Whether he has the focus needed to become a consistent challenger at the top level remains to be seen. I certainly hope so and I think it's up to him where he goes from here.

He has the game to compete in majors. Lets hope he gets plenty of opportunity to show just what he can do over the next few seasons.

Please don't post in all caps, it's considered shouting and difficult to read.

Am I the only one who hates the way in which the Race to Dubai rankings are distorted by showing the points total based on the inflated $10m prize funds attributed to the Final series events? It's a bit of a farce IMHO.

If you look at Shane's career record, it shows season on season official earnings that add up to €4,871,038. On the other hand, if you look up his official career earnings, they total €4,743,472. That's a difference of €127,566.

His official earnings for the season are currently shown as €1,629,106. When we allow for the overstatement of €127,566, his actual official earnings are €1,501,440. It's still his best season by far, but I really wish the European Tour could get their act together and show both official earnings and Race to Dubai points.

The PGA Tour can do it with Fedex Cup points. How hard can it be?

What position and score did he finish up on?

He had a 73 to finish in a 7 way tie for 25th (after being 4 under for 4 and then dropping 5 shots in the next two holes).

I'd say there's an excellent chance he will be able to play in the Nedbank if he chooses to do so. There are 10 slots available for players in the top 30 of the final Race to Dubai rankings.

Shane is currently 17th and 5 players above him plus the 2 immediately below him have already qualified. It's also likely that some of those above him will choose not to play.

Rankings confirmed at 52, he must be raging, with the points on hand a top 10 may have been enough for him to edge up...

I hope so. I was probably harsh in my criticism of his triple bogey yesterday, but concentration is what you need in spades on a final day when you are in contention. And concentration is something you can work on.....it doesn't really require talent. I'm sure he's mad with himself, but let's hope he learns from it.

Plus it clashes with Tigers event so he should get it, lets hope there's some fuel left in the tank!!

Yeah I've raised the issue a few times on here, it's very poor management of the site. It shouldn't be difficult at all, I suppose its the first year with the inflated points for the final series and they will get it right eventually. For such a professional organisation it should be right from the start though!

Also dropped to 17th in race to Dubai, would have been a shoe in for the bonus pool (Top 15) with a decent finish yesterday.
Still looking good to at least stay top 20 and book his place in the first WGC event of next year at worst!

He is obviously good enough to have a great round or even a great tournament every so often and 52 in the world is not to be sneezed at. However he is now competing at another level, where the kind of lapses he suffered on both Saturday and Sunday will push you out of sight in a jiffy. I didn't see any of yesterday but from what I saw on Saturday, he looked in very poor mental shape and I think he has admitted as much.

It will be the mental side of his game and his lifestyle that will decide where he goes from here. He is work in progress.

He has struck me as being a calm enough customer, but yes, he is at the top table now, and his concentration needs to be top drawer. I just hope yesterday's lapses will make him realise this. He certainly has the game for the top table IMO.

The shot on the water on 5 after the eagle really got to him understandably. They went back to show the other tee-shots from the group and Shane was still shaking his head in the background. He knew himself that it was a major error straight after hitting the top of the leaderboard, but he compounded it by letting it affect him so badly.

Another bright start from him. 3 under thru 7 holes

Great start. Hope he has learned from last week's blow out and won't do it again. C'mon Shane!

Dropped a shot on the 10th, but at -2 through 12, he's going nicely. According to Sky, 12 is a difficult one to par. But bloody Sky have shown NONE of Shane's play, damn them.

Rusty start for Rory, only birdied 4 of the first 6.....2 blow up holes (pars) already is a bit of a concern.

Come on Shane great start and reaction to his collapse last Sunday!

Nice interview with him after his round. He was asked about last week's meltdown and said that Sunday was a tough day for him but that he forgot about it once he arrived in Dubai.
