Anyone know why the Irish Times website disabled Facebook/Twitter integration?

Anyone know why one must now register an account with the Irish Times website instead of logging in through Facebook or Twitter to post comments? I don't like to be too cynical, but I can't help feeling the answer may be a little spammy. ;)
